Hello everyone, I was hoping to start a thread for feedback on the X-15 Cummins motor!

Hopefully people can chime in on their experiences with this new motor.

I am working on specs for a new 389 and I chose the X-15 economy series. Going to Down Speed the powertrain to cruise at 1100 RPM @ 68.

My current truck cruises 1200@68 and i love it. Hopefully the X15 has as much low end grunt as the Volvo's XE-13 High Torque.

I have contemplated gearing it to run a little bit more RPM and going with the 565 horsepower performance series with 2050 lb feet of torque......IDK !!

Anyone with a X-15 that can give feedback??

    Thanks!!

No such thing as too much power.

If it's anything like the previous cm2350 I have it will have plenty of grunt. And in my 389 at 500/1850 an honest average fuel economy would be around 5.5mpg. 5 axles, reefer, almost always 78-80k and speeds around 60-65 east coast and 65-72 western states. Fuel economy doesn't change much.

If I bought an x15 and wanted more than 6 mpg I'd get the economy version and probably 485 with the split 1550/1750 torque. That's what I'll get if I have a company driver in it. If I buy an aero truck it would be the 450 horse one. I just couldn't bring myself to put less than about 475/485 in a hood.

I would seriously consider a glider with a cat if you want a hood with a decent motor. These epa trucks cost a lot more to maintain with def, dpf cleaning, extra filters, sensors everywhere, the isx fuel pump issue every 400,000 miles as well as turbo and actuator for about same miles. Rebuild kit for fuel pump is I think about $500. Turbo and actuator probably $4500. Doesn't live as long as old style simple turbo. All these extra costs + lower fuel mpg to "make the air clean". You know, if I put more money in my pocket I wouldn't have to drive as much. How's that figure in? It's easier to avoid California and it's dumb CARB nonsense and actually make a better living by avoiding the edges of the country. Where people mostly have their heads screwed on straight.

The motor is junk, my brand new LT blew the EGR cooler and took out the motor @36 780kms, while mine was apart at international, our second LT blew the motor @69 450kms. We can't get a rental, because XTL/Lightspeed Logistics have about 2 dozen of these LT's down with motor and transmission failure, mileages between 65 000kms and 205 000kms.

I told my boss, to cancel the rest of the LT's on order, and go get some Cascadia's; which he has now done. Internationals Attitude toward this whole fiasco, is the same old same old "Sorry, but you bought it", just like the Maxxforce days.

The performance series does not seem to have these issues (that we know of) but the costs to purchase and warranty those for a fleet, is simply to high.

Real shame, cause its a nice truck (when new) but you can almost feel the parts starting to fall off going down the road lol.

2018 Cascadia for me in 2 weeks.

And here I was thinking it may be an option to buy for a hired driver if it was seeing 8 to 9 mpg.
I'm having a difficult time considering any other emission engines. Yes the cummins has its faults. So do all of them. And I will not buy a Volvo or a Mack. Dd15 seems to do ok, freightliner territory. Maybe detroit should allow international to put their motor in their trucks....
Wonder what erb will do. They're somewhat close to me and I see they have always used lots of internationals. I'll be watching now if they switch to Volvo or freightliner. Maybe their account is big enough they actually get some service from intl.

I was SO excited for these trucks, and its been amazing having this amount of power/space, and getting the fuel mileage we do (6.5 in winter, New West Minister to Edmonton or Calgary, with Reefers at full Canadian Gross weights). The new EPU system with Autostart works amazing, but its still International (my bunk heater, EPU and Autostart failed the day before the motor did).

ERB has permission to do their own warranty work I think, so they will prob just slug it out; same with XTL.

Volvo is nice, but the costs are insane. Never touching a Mack. I hate to say it, but Freightliners w/DD15's have always gotten me where I need to go. As long as the mechanics and dealer have half a brain, the Freightliner Cascadia and Western Star 5700XE seem solid. I will have a 2018 here shortly, so will let everyone know how it goes. If it was my money, it would be a Cascadia or 5700XE and hope for the best. I see a lot of owner ops at the companies I contract for, going with Cascadia's or 5700's; even if the company runs a different truck for the standard fleet.

I tell ya. The next one I buy for me to drive. 12ga will build it for me. 389 with 2ws. And some nice shiny stuff.
After I pay this one off.
Should be able to find someone to drive the current one. It is nice and all but I'd really like a glider with a cat. Get some programming done and fast rear ends. Be a good way to transition from seat to office or retirement when it's likely I'll say I've had about enough seat time that will put me at mid to late 30s.
