Rand McNally Support Thread. (Part 3)

I can see there is a Rand Technician participating here, so I have a question. I am considering an Overdryve Pro 8 as a supplemental navigation tool. As I understand things, these units use satellite for GPS. Some other brands I consider far less reliable use cell tower triangulation for position. Seems to me that if a unit could use satellite as primary GPS with cell towers as a "fall back", the reliability would be unprecedented. Thick clouds can obstruct satellite signals occasionally.

Also, I am a HAM radio operator. Will a two meter or 70cm transceiver interfere with the Overdryve Pro?

 

I have the 740, since it basically came out, and other than needing the new slice due to the magnectic issue, i have had no problems with it charging. granted it only last @ 10 mins off the charger, but its designed like that. yuour supposed to keep it plugged in.

 

I'm unable to update the atlas on the 740. Stuck at retrieving map list.

 

When is the next map update on the 740?
They still have not fixed my road at home, going on 18 months now...
and found another low clearance that is wrong, been there for years.
Rt 209 going through Port Jervis NY. either from I84 or to I84. you can go through Rt 209 and the tunnel.
been going through there for @ 8 years now. and there is a sign that says actual clearance 13-8
BUT, the map insists there is no route.......

Also last night at 1550 Mack dr Detroit MI - got me in there but when i tried to do my routing out to 200 Pepsi way in Wytheville VA - it keeps saying no route, i had to use a near by street in VA to get it to route.

So I sent my overdryve pro 8 slice back for warranty. I was told I could use the tablet without the slice, just buy a GPS mount. Did that. Problems are worse than before. Freezes, will not lock on a GPS signal for more than a few minutes before it crashes and reboots. Also the tablet will drain the battery faster than it can be charged with no other apps running and screen set to 1/4 brightness. I'm worried the new slice will do nothing.
