I have had few problems with the three DELL laptops I have used in a truck.
I just replace them when the warranty expires (after 3 years).

Once you find a couple to compare;on cnet reviews you can get a list of businesses that have specific ones for sale and their prices.

My cousin is manager of a weigh station. I was talking to him about computers in his office at the scales. One of the ladies that works there came in and said she had just got a Dell. I asked her if she got it the thrift store, meaning the outlet. She gave me a hateful look and asked if I had been born obnoxious or had been working on it all my life and stormed out.

I have bought 2 computers at the Dell store. Some are refurbished, some have never been used. The best deals seem to be towards the end of the month. They really want to move them and will drop the price and throw in freebies.

Native if you are just going to use it for internet and emails etc you don' tneed to be concerned with speed. the slowest thing out there would be fine. now if you want to watch movies, play games etc then start worrying about it.

The old toshiba I have now has seen beter days. it was $1000 new nd has the gib screen on it. These days there is so many problems it takes like two minutes to pen any programs or any of my pictures files. but it surfs the net just fine (when I can get it booted up that is)

    Native Dancer Thanks this.

If you are having problem booting, you might try a fresh install of the OS on a new HD. Changing your RAM wouldn't hurt either.

ya I get that disk check all the time. and it comes up with either hundred or thousands of orphaned files. I have drivers missing and who knows what else .it all just started very suddenly, never had a problem with it before. I'm just going to reinstall all the factory software and start over.
I'll loose all my pics and documents doing that right?? because my automatic file backup isn't working either. I'v been uploading most my pics to internet based storage as I get time

You can get a USB flash drive and put your pics and stuff on it. I see 4 gb drives for about 25 dollars. Then when you restore to factory settings, it's easy to put them back.

When looking at new comps, they will come with Vista. If you want to watch movies get Vista Home premium, a dual core processor,(most are now) and at least 2gb of ram.
Anything less and you will be disappointed.
