Hi Iam wanting to get into truck driving. I'm currently a diesel mechanic. I have enough money to buy my own truck and was just wondering how much I would be able to make with no company experience. If I bought my own truck. And what would be the best way to go about the whole situation

I've seen a few guys do this, they went broke rather quickly, but they had fun while it lasted.

Why did they go broke? What steps can I take to not do that?

Trucking is very long on expenses and rather low on the net side. If you're a young person, do yourself a favor, go learn robotics and you will have a lifelong skill that will take you somewhere. Trucking is a dead end, too many people think it is the road to riches but the truth is quite the opposite. It's too easy to lose everything in this business.

Perfect recipe for disaster. I've known several mechanic's through the years, and they saw us drivers come and go, and thought, hmm, must be nice, until they actually did it,and most I know, went back to wrenchin'. As a mechanic, you have much more stability, drivers are dime a dozen( sorry) and they are always going to need a wrench. Buying a truck with no experience is foolhardy, and a conservative estimate for a new company driver the 1st year, minus schooling, is about $25g's. 2nd year, and beyond, you might make $30-$35, and a ton of hassles. Stay where you are, that's where you are needed.

Open yourself a shop, be good and honest and you will make more money than any truck driver.
My mechanic has work lined up for 3 months ahead, because his work is good

Bingo. Just check any truck repair facility, they have them stacked 2 deep waiting for repairs.
