Why do we have to pay tax on fuel with ifta, don' we pay tax at the pump? Isn't this double taxation? I am asking because i am about to get ifta, and i am new at this

different states have different tax rates each state wants there share of the fuel tax for the miles you drive in there state. even if you purchases the fuel in another state
if you buy the right amount of fuel for each state or buy your fuel in states with a more expensive tax rate. then use that fuel in states with lower tax rates you can get a fuel tax refund. -

Every one that is ultimately responsible for fuel tax should print up a list of the state fuel taxes to keep in the truck so they can at a quick glance figure out the true cost of fuel along a route and plan accordingly.Last edited: Mar 2, 2018

i end up owing a few hundred dollars at the end of the quarter whenever i run a lot of Canadian miles. its cheaper to fuel in nd and pay the difference in fuel tax than to buy Canadian fuel. plus saves me from doing a lot of math on the books.....lol
