Super-sized order of blame pie: who gets the biggest slice?

well the receiver DID sign for it.....

 

If the receiver signed the BOL without noting any shortages, then the fact that they're short is, in fact, 100% on the receiver.

Doesn't excuse the fact that the driver didn't check the trailer, but the receiver can't complain about it either.

yeah this. That's why you have to sit there forever while they manage to count to 10 (using both hands of course) to ensure that they received everything.

They signed it, i"m out. They find a discrepancy, well then we have to fix that before it gets signed..

 

What surprises me is a trailer sitting around for a month. Is there so many spare trailers that that is normal?
Or is ltl that seasonal?

The company that I pull for? They know where the trailer was, and any OS&D that's found in the trailer and unaccounted for gets offloaded into the OS&D area on the shop floor, and the trailer put back into service. It gets handled, and nobody gets blamed. Trying to pin blame on someone doesn't get the bills paid. Yeah, a nastygram reminder about calling for an OS&D authorization gets sent out over the QC, and the driver responsible might get pulled into the office for a quick dressing down, but it ends there. There's money to be made, and spending time trying to figure out what percentage of blame to place where doesn't do anything to pay the bills.

 

I wasn't talking about blame or even if the trailer was lost.
I was courious if it's the norm in the ltl world for any trailer to be sitting in the yard for a month. In the tl world it's very rare to see a trailer sit more than a few days, much less than a month.

 

I'm still confused

 

I'm guessing that it sat idle for that long because nobody was willing to step up and deal with the OS&D that was in it.
