You want the boss to make all these changes, to make you happy? Ain't gonna happen.
At my last job, I waited for changes. They came, and they were worse than what I had. They wanted to take my somewhat decent Penske leased truck, and put me in an old Cornbinder they hauled in from a plant out west somewhere. Run down POS, they didn't care.
Same pay for years, took benefits away, took retirement away, wouldn't fix anything right, band aids were applied every where.
Time to find a new job, or suck it up, and get the most from what you now have.

agreed. it is what it is. eventually move on because its not going to give me what i want. at least its steady. it doesnt take a new truck to keep me happy either. heck if my boss put me in a decent mid 90's W900L or a peterbilt 397 18 speed 4206 cat i would love. not gonna happen. if he let me keep the truck im in i would be satisfied. its not the truck, its everything else.

oh, yeah do one thing with my assigned truck. fix the darn hood. it looks sad up close with those cracks.

but i just have to accept whatever it is, in the knowledge that with maintaining a good MVR in a class A smooth bore opens more doors.

All this is why i could never be an owner of a trucking company. I could not possibly put up with the bs of hiring and retaining drivers. All the crap drivers do and say, and all the whining... no way. I don’t know how anyone does it.

Between the drivers who go out and wreck stuff every day and the ones who don’t show up, and now this business about throwing demands at the boss. Sorry but if i was your boss and you started throwing demands at me i would be slamming the door in your face.

@ad356 I still think it’s a decent enough gig for a guy who is just trying to get a year of class A experience. A lot of newbies out there would be happy with your situation.

im not making the demands, the driver who was doing this.... charlie. he gets away with of the things i have mentioned because of the low retention rate, my boss cant always attract replacements. i don't necessarily agree with the things he said that he does, but none the less he gets away with it. the things i have seen make me tend to believe he actually does it. constant job ads 52 weeks out of the year. dented up equipment with no disciplinary action. drivers putting trailers in the wrong spots even after being told what they were doing was wrong. this stuff happens because these guys know my boss is powerless. he still has not replaced the drivers quit 3 weeks ago.

i believe charlie, but im not going to take that route. i might go back to construction. especially if that last farm continues to make me wait. that's been on the order of sometimes 15 hours per week. i go there every other day. sometimes waiting 2-3 hours. that adds up. at least working construction i would get $16 per hour for every hour worked. often $22 per hour. sometimes as much as $33 per hour (rate-overtime)

i have heard that if you find something else and threaten leaving on him, he will do a "wait, please dont go.... here is some more $$". it wouldn't be hard for me to make one phone call monday. have something else lined up and see what he says. he might make a counter-offer, more money and those two days off i want every other week during the summer months. if he says go, your done then im back into an hourly gig.

you should never care who gets the job there, when you leave. whenever i left a job, i never looked back, and most certainly, no matter the offer, NEVER WENT BACK.

i work 5 nights a week, usually no more than 45 hours each week, and take home more than you. in time, you will be earning more money for maybe less hours as well. hang in there, get your experience, and move on.

But you are still making a grand per week right? Not only that but you are home every night and less than 10 hours a day? Again, this scenario would be a dream job to a lot of rookies out there.

No offense, but are you sure you really want to be a trucker? There seems to be a lot of things about the industry that bother you. You can keep job hopping all you want but it will never be perfect. I’m surprised you haven’t learned that yet after all the different jobs you have held in the last year.

if you were asking me, it's a dedicated account my company has had for over 10 years. i try to always get dedicated jobs. i am very near retirement, so this will be my last job.

when i saw the ad on Craig's List, yes, CL, i jumped at it.

and my take home is a bit more than $1,000 after taxes.

less than 10 hours a night, is the norm. the only tie ups are road construction shut downs, or severe weather, even then, i am not on the road much more.
