It the engine tune they are using to get that 500 hp out of that motor. Had mine retuned and they told me at idle it was over fueling by almost 40%. After the tune no more smell burning eyes and no smoke on cold start. Didn't get any better milage but the smoke is gone and no more smoke shifting gears either.

Well got 60000mi on my new 12.7 that i replaced due to old engine blowing blue smoke with thick heavy clouds. The new 12.7 does the same thick heavy blue smoke burning 1 gal oil every 7k mi. When engine warms up it barely noticable but you still smell oil burning . Sleeping at night is almost impossible with oil burning smell . wake up in the morning your mouth taste like diesel. Not happy with Fitz or Detroit Junk IMO. Sad thing is nobody seems to know how to fix the issue. Can i get a compression check nope book doesnt call for it warranty tells us to go thru these issues step by step according to Manuf recommendations .
Sorry customer service sucks -
How about paying for a compression check? I know it sucks but how else will you know.
ChicagoJohn and Coronado1785$ Thank this. -
You could have good compression and still have bad oil control rings.

Just got a quote from Freightliner for a Detroit remanufactured 12.7 long block .
21300 plus tax. If you don't have a decent core tack on another 7500. -
Possibly it may be the turbo..
The only other thought would be if you constantly idled both engines from the time they were new the cylinders glazed and the rings didn’t seat.
