I'm looking to go on the road and so far it looks like there is not to many companies for new student drivers out of Florida can any body help. Dont want to make a big mistake at this time. I dont care if I'm out 2 or 3 weeks at a time as long as I'm turning paid miles. Thanks for any info.
Looking at FFE, SWIFT, DeBoer.

Macho,
I believe Swift has a hiring freeze as well as SNI. I would take a look at Prime, Crete, Schaffer, Star, Pemberton truck lines.
DeBoer will not take you if you are overweight (ask member medicine man). FFE is questionable as I think they have ceased hiring in FL. Being that I live near you, I would say check out the pilot at 520 and I95. Also, I believe a company called PAM hires out of FL. However, Allen Freight Services, a company by them, is who you would be employed by.
There are many threads on which companies hire for FL. Being that were a one way state, we do not get the best till one has 2-3yrs under his/her belt. These companies should serve as your last resort; Convenant, Werner (theres good and bad), CR England.

hey macho52,
have you looked into central ref,out of ut? not sure about hiring out of fl. but i know they are still taking students. -
Thanks dsis20. I looked at the web site and I will give them a call tomorrow. I'm not sure but I think I read someplace that they are own by Swift.

macho,
I would take Swift over CRE, Convenant, and Werner. I saw more Swift trucks on the road in FL than before. I would try them or Central.

Yes so far I think Swift is the way for me to go. I have read a lot of bad and a lot of good but like some of the guys say if you act like a baby you will be treated like one. I always like to give the benefit of a dout and be proven wrong. I know a guy at Swift and he si now Owner operator. after two years. must not be all that bad.

macho52,
central is not owned by swift. there is a lot of info on them just search central ref. some good and some bad. like all these companies out there.
good luck. -
Macho,I'm 45 and I'm millwright in a papermill and I also feel like that one day in the near future these type of jobs will be history.
I am seriously considering already getting my CDL here in Houston they have a weekend school.
As far as the complaining about Swift, hey a job is a job we have our share of whiners here in the mill.
I rankin a man just has to find his fit in this ol world.
Some people are never happy and some are,no matter what. -
I agree with you mandiesel. I have been in management in my line of work and you have cry babies and you have what I call good workers shakers & movers and you know who works out and who wont just by the attitude they have. I just don't want to make a mistake at this point in my life. I have raised my kids and I have a great wife of 35 yrs and all I want to do is do my best now that I'm young & wise enough to do it.
