Thanks for clearly stating your position and information sources. I'm retired from my first career and due to start CDL school at Sampson Community College in NC. My sleep is not the best, but I don't want to be scammed into a sleep study and CPAP by any party with ulterior motives.

    Klleetrucking and Aamcotrans Thank this.

Source? Preferably a peer reviewed source. That’s good info, and if it’s backed up with hard data it could really help a lot of people.

Companies know some docs do little more than show up and sign the form. By dictating which docs you can use they know the exam is genuine, or not, as the case may be.

One truly interesting part of the medical card conundrum is that Canadians (and Mexicans, I believe) who operate in the USA are not required to hold a separate medical card.

Every 5 years (in my province) I must renew my license, and part of that process is taking a government form to any doctor (duty clinic, family doctor, etc) and having them ascertain that I am fit, as per the specs on the form.

No urinalysis for diabetes (although 1 company did require this, and they paid for it alongside my pre-employment drug UA).

After age 65, to maintain a class 1 license a driver had to renew his/her license every year, but the process is the same. It’s about $50, you get a new picture and a new card. Just having the license means we are medically fit for 5 years.

Yep. As of this date there are NO federal sleep apnea standards. I no longer drive but my last physical all the doc did was shine a flashlight down my throat tell me everything looks good and sent me on my way. This sleep apnea crap is just a way to gouge drivers using non existent federal rules. You have sleep apnea and feel the need to use the CPAP all power to you. However I will forever think the way this has turned into a boondoggle stinks!!!!!!!
