    Back in 2010, I started at a new company. The safety guy forgot to tell me that they needed me to work as the yard dog once a month on a Sunday night.

    So my Sunday night comes due, and I’m home tying a few on with the wife. I get a call asking when I will arrive for my shunter shift. I drunkenly explain that no one ever mentioned this detail about working in the yard, and that I’m too drunk to drive. It’s 70 miles to the yard, plus trying to back up after about a dozen beers....

    He told me that since it was just working in the yard on private property and there were no deliveries to make, I should be fine. That if I had any incidents they wouldn’t hold it against me. They even offered to have one of their local guys pick me up on his way by and if I felt sober enough by 1-2am, I could take the truck home.

    Needless to say, I thanked for them for their confidence in my drunken abilities but politely declined and offered to pick up the next Sunday shift.

    We all know our limits. Besides having a hearty belly laugh at the idea of backing 30-40 trailers in drunk, I didn’t hold it against them.

    i never had that, i was a plant receiver. when the work was done i went home, which was never the same time two days in a row. frankly im sick of dairy and all of its various forms, unfortunately that's really most of what exists in this dead black hole state.

    treated as a trainee, that's kind of funny. what about a guy that drove locally for 20 years, a highly experienced truck driver. they would put him with a "trainer" with 6 months LOL. that's just hysterical. i had some good trainers but some that hadn't been driving any longer then i have now, one didnt even know how to chain up.

    @Moose1958

    Yep, I made a lot of DUI arrests on night shift. I arrested the same people sometimes and had to charge them with DUI 1st each time til the first one was a conviction.

    Dude you act like every single company is the same. Not all ore companies are mega carriers. Not all are small. Not all are good. Not all are bad. Not all are cheap. Some pay very well, some don’t. You have the internet and a phone, use it to find a company that works for you. Maybe you should spend less time on here and more time coming up with a plan to improve your situation.

    I’m assuming you won’t do that though

    You can drive local 20 years doesn't mean a hill of beans towards otr. Otr is an entirely different beast from your milk hauling , if you can't take the short milk hauls and short waits you will not make it pulling reefer, or van. Otr eats up and spits your kind back out.
