Hello,
I am based in the Northeast (Stamford, CT - NYC Area) and would like to drive either cross country to California or Florida and work with produce. I have been in the produce industry for many years and have decided to take a step in another direction within the respective field. California for example has the lettuce market and Florida has the Orange and Tomato market which are of great interest to me.
The challenge is I have a criminal history that was over 10 years ago. I have one major moving violation (Not obeying a stop sign in New York, but I have a CT drivers license.) and am about to sign up for school on Monday, but before doing so I want to ask the obvious questions, "Is it hard to get a job?" Obviously you can bring stuff back up, but you don't want to go empty to Florida or California I would assume? How does this all work and will my criminal past when I was younger stop me from getting a job?
Thanks in advance for your prompt responses seeing that I have until Monday because the window to NETTTS course for this next 4 to 5 month course is closing and if I don't sign up this time it will take another two months. Is NETTTS - New England Tractor Trailer School a good driving school? I have chosen to go to school now if I am to go so that this way I can drive in the calmer months where weather in the Northeast is not so grueling... I have thought this aspect out, but just recently found your site and found everything I have read thus far to be very informative!
Kindest Regards,
Gregory

If you can suck air through your pie hole, you are qualified.
You will not have any problems. China will be along and give you some ideas. -

With the history being 10 years old (and it has been at least 18 months since being released from sentence if any) you should be OK. Depending on what the criminal history is and a carriers customer base if they enter Canada etc etc you might have some issues. I seriously doubt you will have any problems with just general OTR.
Dan.S Thanks this. -

With a criminal past, you'll feel right at home in trucking....lol
Contact Calex Logistics. They'll probably hire you when you graduate. They haul produce out of California back to the Northeast. From what some of their drivers post, you'll see Las Vegas pretty often because they haul freight from PA to Las Vegas which gets them to the west coast. I'm sure there's lots of other stuff they haul to get to the west coast to pick up that produce.
