I have a #7fb30241, ar#4w2354, jwac 3406b in a 1985 Peterbilt 359. Turbo is needing replaced (oily pipe on intake side). Engine is a 400hp but seems to lack a little power. It makes 27# of boost but rolls black smoke every shift unless you ease into the throttle. I know that's fuel that is being wasted. Turbo is currently an OR5381. Would a 199119 be a power upgrade? What can I do to get a little more power? This is a work truck, not a hot rod. I don't want to kill it, but it smokes like a dog when you get on it. I know something isn't quite right. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

177148 is a better choice in my opinion, the 119 does a good job but it can be a little laggy.

This must be a troll post. OP actually gave us all the info needed to give a decent answer.

(Not ball busting, just refreshing to see a post that doesn't just say "I need more power, will a 199119 turbo solve all my problems?")

You should check air flow across the cooler as well, seen a few stopped up in my time. Your kinda describing the symptoms

Could check the a/f ratio to see how it is set, or just ease into it a bit more.

I have a 177148 on one. It helps tremendously on the low end with much quicker spool up than the stock turbo. I often wonder if it isn't just a little less at wot once everything is spooled up and you are pulling hard at 1700 or better.
There is another option out now that I have heard of called Blalock I think...they call it a switchblade turbo?
It is still wastegated, but is designed differently by the looks of it. I'm not sure if they have one for a B model.
    Anyone else heard of it?
