I've been doing it for several years. It's busy in the winter, kinda can sometimes slow down in the summer, but I enjoy a little time off to play around on the off season.

Anything you wanna know, I'll do my best to answer, partner.

There was a propane shortage in early 14. As the snow was so high in certain areas the trains couldn't get to different areas. The lines were so long to get loaded that guys were waiting 40 plus hrs. Ppl were making big bucks just in wait time.

Man there were trucks from IA, IL, MN, and anywhere you could think of up north. That came down to MT. Belvieu, TX. Looking for a load. There have been multiple HOS exemptions since then. It's pretty common in the winter time. As for the shortage, MT Belvieu is the propane capitol. And ever runs out, the pipeline network there pumps to a lot of different places.

Unless there is some strange freaky wreck. There will be no flames. MC-330's and 331's rarely rupture. They are well designed ad can take a lot. If a popane bottle can withstand a drop off annhighly elevated highway. Then there ain't much that would break it open.

Cryogenic and propane bottles can take what fuel takers can't for sure. And most of these tanks are old.

I know whenever I hauled gasoline in Florida we would get exemptions whenever the governer declared a state of emergency, which was usually when we were being threatened by a hurricane. We were allowed to carry extra weight to max out our trailers, and were given different HoS regs. We definitely were not "exempt" from HoS, but I think they gave us more work time and only required an 8hr reset. My company stuck with normal HoS, but they definitely took advantage of loading the trailers to the max. When hurricane Irma hit we used these exemptions for probably a full month to catch back up with the fuel supply. We even had state troopers escorting us down the interstate in the days prior to when the storm hit.

I know one of Oil and Gas companies I hold stock have vast propane storage and are not selling until price rises and so will my dividend. They bought huge storage facilities when oil tanked in ‘14

Thanks, I stand corrected. I've seen the HOS exempted during floods and after earthquakes but that was very localized.
I'll keep an eye on this.

Thanks for posting this. I learn something new every once in awhile. I think, in our area at least, I'd want to make real sure of the exemption before I started running over the HOS.

Another thought...you guys running on exemption, is there any limit or do you just go 'til you can't go any more? Tankers and super long hours could be a real bad combination.

We have propane exemptions in the northeast every winter......all it takes is some 0F temps and a storm .

Distributors keep so little inventory that panic immediately sets in. Just in Time economy in action.

I was hauling gas when hurricane Irma hit us in Florida, all HOS was waived for several days to haul fuel. Drove 16 hours one day, no big deal use to do that all the time back in my chicken hauling days.:)
