    This will throw a real kink into it... :biggrin_255:

    I use Skype (VOIP) a lot, and typically for long distance. There are plug-ins to record calls. Are those calls subject to the same rules? If so, which rules? Those of the originating state/province? The terminating state/province? The state or province where the Skype servers reside? What if they are offshore? What if my ISP is offshore? Etc., etc., etc.

    In the states, such calls are considered to cross state lines. My previous post addresses this.

    Your situation gets even more interesting. You are crossing country lines. I really wonder exactly what the canadian rules would be. I have not looked them up as yet. They might mirror ours.

    recap;
    -you can legally (both fed/state laws) video/audio record officer weather he likes it or not during an officer initiated stop.
    -some states you may be required to notify (not ask) officer you are doing so (kind of an 'ify' law....but one you wouldn't want to break in those specific states)
    -other states your not required to notify officer of camera at all
    -if said officer physically stops you from recording....it may be time to be quite and wait for a lawyer.

    sound about right?

    Any one else see the shows about the hookers get video taped doing things with johns then the cop gets the tape from the person that recorded it and then they file charges against those people?

    It is called video justice I think. So if it is allright for that person to record people doing those things in the johns vehicle then I would assume there are no problems with us video and audio recording people.

    I have see shows were this was being done in several states.

    If an officer physically stops you from recording in public... He/She IS in Deet Ship... big time... call an attorney immediately. I'd suspect most officers wouldn't even try... because they know they would be in deep trouble. They would, more than likely, try to 'none physically' intimidate the filmer/recorder or coerce them to stop. Don't buy it... stand your ground and keep recording.. but above all be POLITE about it. Calmly tell the officer you know your rights... and you have every right to record what transpires.(again, check with your state).

    If your interested in seeing this in action... Go to the YouTube site and type a search for 'Suspicionless Checkpoint'... You'll find a guy that films the DHS relentlessly. (this guy knows his rights... state and federal)...

    Disclaimer: what you see may shock you here!

    Yes, I too heard about this show... it's going to be sort of like that show 'Cheaters'. Typically, many states will also overlook the 2 party consent rule when a crime is in progress... (in this case prostitution)

    Yeah, I sort of feel for the officers too... they are trying to do what they are told to do(ie their job). However, what someone IS asking them to do IS unconstitutional... or illegal in our country(the whole implied compliance game).

    I guess I see it no different then a driver running with 'doctored' logs... Ultimately it IS the drivers butt if he/she does so, as it IT the officers butt in the videos.
