So here is my story.....
Recieved my Cdl in new Jersey 2015. Immediately started worked for Road Tex ltl for about 11 months. During my employment I had 3 incidents not reportable such as a cracked fender, miror and I bent a rim, all within a year I was fired of course. A month later I worked for PTL and quit after only 3 months horrible miles i have 1 weeks notice given. My father passes away and I dont work for a few months. I get pre hired with srt and during orientation sent home cause of an oversight on my pre background check. I have a felony possession of marijuana conviction in which I served no jail time just probabtion it was my first and only conviction and a possession of a firearm charge from 2012 but all charges were dropped and in the State of New Jersey all convictions And charges are reported... Great.... So i catch a bus from Kentucky to Jersey same thing happened when I got hired at bay and bay transport. Now I have worked for a guy under the table since bay and bay and I just quit on him he was a slve driver local work but 20 hours a day I didn't feel safe risking my license anymore so he won't give me work refrence and tech on my dac it says I havnt driven since 2016 except that it Also says that I was hired and discharged at srt and bay and bay.. So now I have to list and explain those to jobs that I never worked at. So it gets worse I have been paying surcharges since 2007 for like 9 speeding tickets each ticket carried a 350 dollar fine a year for 3 years so that year I owed the DMV over 10k I been paying off and now only owe 600 bucks but since 2016 I restored my license and let it get suspended for lack of surcharge payment and then restored it again over and over... I have a vehicle so I needed to restore my license but I didnt have a job for a while so I would lapse on the payment... So on top of finding a company that will hire me with a 3 year old felon I need to find a company that will over look the 7 suspensions I have on my license over the last 2 years but i only owe 600 and it will never get suspended again.. Smh can someone pls help me I have a clean 10 year driving record nothing on there at all over the last 10 years I dont do drugs and I need a job almost more than I need to breath. Thank you for your time, attention and help.![]()

Try Carolina Cargo; that's your best chance. They hire felons, ex-cons, bad MVR.
If that doesn't work, try Craigslist. Some of those 1099 companies doen't even use DAC.
One NYC cabbie found a job there with 15 tickets. Good job too, hauling produce out of California and back to Hunts Point. He said he made dozens of phone calls on Craigslist and left dozens of messages and in a few days someone returned a phone call and hired him. -
I actually tried Carolina cargo they offered me something like 12 cents a mile on all miles team driving. But to many suspensions the gentleman said his safety department didn't want to take a risk on me. I tried explaining that I only owe a few hundred and if hired I would pay it off immediately but that got no where. Thank you for tip... I guess that's my best shot...
Need4Speed and Chinatown Thank this. -
This record and suspensions etc etc etc. Pretty much leaves you with one option.
Work for a dump truck company who does not give a #### for DAC and does not have time for the niceties of a background etc. You are going to likely be working for cash under the table for such a employer. But you will be working.
The financial stabbing I see here from the states gouging you for money in excess just to get your license back.. it's nuts. It would be very much cheaper to go to the FBI or the Embassy and denounce citizenship and go out of the Country to start over somewhere else as a expat and a stateless person under the UN. The 30% exit taxation would be a wash at that point. You obviously will not be able to go to Canada etc. That's out.
The people I ran into on the road have generally all sorts of felony crimes and have come out of prison with nothing and even less. They go to the grocery and start lumping freight for a few dollars cash per day and claw upwards to some sort of living one day at a time scraping along. PROVIDED that the crimes committed is not related to stealing, trafficking or assault with vehicle etc. The Industry has a zero tolerance for that.
I hate to be difficult, but the way things are going in this society its not enough that someone serves the necessary punishments and so on but they have to be essentially clubbed out of a ability to do something legally for wages and make a living, whatever that might be. It's unfortunate.
Anyway thats my two cents. Im sure you will find something. But it's not going to be a established mega or some formal company with the necessary insurance, checks and so on. Your history will essentially cause the insurance carrier to say NOPE. Go away. Follow me? So you are going to have to seek out the more rougher small owners who need someone to drive that dump schlepping blacktop or rock or what have you.skallagrime, Expeditor, EddieC83 and 1 other person Thank this. -
You should have stuck it out with the under the table job. With your history, you are too high of risk for any company that wants to remain in business. You get into an accident on the road causing injury or death and the lawyers would eat you and the company alive and not even break a sweat doing it.
EddieC83, CrappieJunkie and x1Heavy Thank this. -
I really don't know what to say. But, if I were you find a company that needs a yard spotter, work there for 10 years then move on.
good luck, oh, watch you speed. -
Dump trucks and yard spotting might be it. I am a spotter, but the company I work for runs a background check and I hate to say this, I don't think you would pass.
Maybe find a farmer who needs crops ran from farm to market.
Best of luck. -

Im a felon from jersey myself, and boy I'll tell ya, jersey is strict, that's the reason I left that dump of a state. Try the ports, or rail yards. I had a felony, but went to freymller in okc and they hired me, I didn't have any suspensions on my license at all, but I did serve time and was on parole when I went to freymiller. I'm hauling containers now home every nght. It may seem as if all the doors are shut right now for you.( Hell, even bolted in you ) Just stay persistent & pray on it and I'll bet my bottom dollar something will open for you!. You can also try calex in pittston pa. My buddy was in a similar situation as you and went to calex. My best advise honestly would be, tighten up and focus and walk a straight path man. Nj is no joke. I hope everything works out for you!
