Has anyone found an app based ELD that actually works? We were signed up with JJKeller through Verizon until we found out that they weren't ELD compliant. Switched to Fleetmatics GPS tracking and ELD at last second before Dec. deadline. Only chose them because they are also owned by Verizon which allowed us to switch contracts. Fleetmatics works great as a GPS tracker but the ELD is terrible. The app was not ready for the mandate, it has had all sorts of bugs. Customer service is overwhelmed, so it takes an hour to get through to them. Biggest issue is bluetooth connectivity and location updating. I would make the effort to try to get out of the contract, but I'm looking at other app based ELD's on the market, and all of them have bad reviews that sound like they have the similar issue with the Bluetooth connectivity. I would like to stay with an app based ELD for the time being because we bought 25 tablets and they are under contract through Verizon Wireless until mid - 2019.

I know this type of technology will always have its issues, but has anyone found an app based ELD that works with very little connectivity issues?

I'm using Blue Ink Technology. It's had few bugs. No contract just one time payment. You could try one see if works for you. 300.00 I think paid for mine.

I have been happy with the Keep Truckin app I am using for one of my drivers.
The issue with the Fleetmatics system in the rest of the trucks are similar to your experience.
Now that they are caught up the service is getting better but their 3 year contracts are what makes them a struggle to change from. They are also super proud of their product for being such a challenge for the drivers to use.
Keep Truckin, on the flip side has no contracts, no fee for the GPS itself and their standard service is about $30 a month total. From a fleet manager perspective, it has much less user convenience for me but it is a LOT easier for the drivers to use. That is my deciding factor, but I only have 8-9 trucks in my transport fleet. It is not hard to develop spreadsheets to track a lot of my recordables.

I have been using TransFlo T-7 since before the mandate and am quite pleased with it and customer support. My issues were operator error but I have found it to be very stable and reliable. It don’t use Bluetooth. I have the app on my iPad and iPhone. It uses cellular or WiFi connection. In areas of weak signal it continues to store the data until it gets signal again. It’s a plug and play solution that has the admin portal with tracking and IFTA reports, etc. Works fine for me.....and super easy to use compared to the expensive ones I have used in the past.....

If we're going to try something else out, we definitely want one with no contract. I'll check it out. Thanks!

Fleetmatics customer service reps just read from a script once you finally get a hold of them. I feel a little bad, because their product sucks from a software standpoint and I'm sure they're overwhelmed with complaints. We are having daily issues and the drivers and I are beyond frustrated. Things have gotten a little better, but we still have persistent problems with connectivity.

I've heard some mixed things about Keep Truckin, but I am looking in to them. I hear that they now have a wired option with a usb connection. Do they operate like Fleetmatics with a GPS tracking unit separate from the ELD functionality? or does the tracking work off of the GPS on the tablet or device? I've heard of some that do that.

Yep no contact on the TransFlo either Just curious, why was the JJ Keller not compliant, because of functionality or what?

I looked into them a while back, but it was when they were a basic ELOG. I will check into them again. Thanks!
