Nice point on the specifics of the questions from any given company in any industry.. EVER been convicted vs. in the last 5/7/10 years. That's easy. I am not doubting what you are claiming, but it seems odd that companies would employ someone for several months and THEN do a MORE thorough background check and fire them for old offenses? Here's my advice. Send out as many apps as possible, be 100% honest on half, use the 7 year rule on the other half and see what happens. I doubt most companies do a new, more thorough background check 6 months later, that's pretty ####ing stupid if you think about it. Don't let these old timers with idle hands and an agenda discourage you, OP. most haven't even driven in the last 5-10 years.

Nothing odd at all about the FMCSA mandated yearly review.

One more thing about the Schenider firing. I am not fully privy to all the facts but I do know it was a yearly review that got him. I suspect it was a case of the first background check not looking at all the databases. I know it might sound strange but not all background checks will return the same results. Most of these checks are contracted out. One thing that can screw up a background check is the OTIS database. Some records on this database is not available in a regular NCIC check. Its all in how the search is formatted. This is why sometimes a conviction can be discovered (even years) later.

    EddieC83 Thanks this.

In some respects this might show interesting things. If a carrier does a lot of Canada or a lot of business in the chemicals industry most likely they are going to background check you. I have also been getting reports that since 9 11 it is getting more and more difficult to enter un-escorted onto military bases with records. Some places want a driver to have TWIC cards. Some crimes will disqualify you from getting TWIC or hazmat for life. However a simple run of the mill carrier that hauls rubber dog crap out of Omaha most likely won't even ask. With an industry as diverse as trucking there is no one size fits all approach to backgrounds.

Speaking of background checks... I did have a company question me about the gun possion charge that was dropped I was never convicted and I never seen it on my background check for most companies but one company did see it and questioned me they let it go even tho I didn't disclose it on the application because I was honest about my felony conviction

Your release from the sentence is very recent. This is going to be very problematic with some carriers.
