O.K I tried Western Express for a little bit of time both as a company driver and flatbed lease purchase operator and it was a miserable experience.
All around ( in my opinion) recruiters make Western seem like a fair and honest company who cares about it's drivers and their needs and I did not see that. The hotel Western Express puts Drivers at in Nashville is a run down dump. The orientation is a bunch lectures and flatbed training was a joke. The instructor I had was lazy and never started training on time and did not cover tarping a load.
Flatbed lease purchase dispatch treated me like crap and like I was a company slave.
I had an injury tarping a load and could not get a hold of anyone in dispatch immediately and when I did get a hold of dispatch the next day the dispatcher wanted to know if I got the load tarped ( which I did). I ended not be able to work for a week due to restrictions I was on ( I could drive just no heavy lifting) and my dispatcher threatened to come get my truck and charge me $1000.00. I finally managed to get a load I did not have to tarp back to Nashville ( and I had to fight with Safety to get that) and I turned my truck in. Western Express still owes me _. It has been about a month and they go I have to wait 45 days once I cancel my lease to get my $. They go to me they have to do an audit. That's bull!!!
The ONLY good thing about Western was I got seat time behind the wheel.

All bigger companies are the same crap on a different day. All elog now. All about the bottom line. No regard for driver. If you have less than 6months exp, your in a tough spot, you will be looking hard to get hired. Best wishes.
Rocknroller4 and Veryblessed Thank this. -
I never think trying lease purchase is a good idea. I think it's an even worse idea if a driver is inexperienced or lacks knowledge of the industry. Lease purchase is more like "lose purchase."

Find a guy that knows all the tricks, knows how to make money, knows how to be comfortable or uncomfortable. Give him 2 or 3k to teach you the fundamentals and give insights. Screw cdl school and all that follows. Get some experience somewhere after that in a chip truck or whatever and move up to the creamier stuff by not telling people the truth when you're angry, not running 4 wheelers into ditches, and not so much being perfect but not being cited with stuff that wasn't dismissed or reduced or not being cited at all.
I've pulled every kind of trailer, paper logs, no logs, elogs, all that bs. And before you get in a head on collision with a drunk, have a plan for your money. Just an opinion; I ain't nobody.roel1177 Thanks this. -

Looking to file a class action suit for how people treated by western express.
Orientation and signing employment agreement
What they call training is new guy exploited while trainer sleeps or drinks!
Drivers or previous applicants,
Let’s get a class action suit started against their coercion and tyranny!
Make it stop!
For us and others! -
I ain't no expert here on anything. When I was there a couple times I had a good trainer and good managers. Breakdown worked well with me. It's seems like a lot of it is luck on the trainer and manager or dispatcher and that makes tremendous difference. I only got the run-around when I wanted home time, but I got there. Sometimes I'd get fd up flatbed trailers from guys not fixing the lights which costs time. I ran both flatbed and van there and trained guys.
I saw a lot of happy drivers for what that's worth. I know a lot of good-hearted guys are warning each other about that company right now and I'm not disagreeing with them. For the most part they gave me a load, I ran it and got paid fairly. I made good, consistent money almost all the time. It was rare not to. If a guy learns more and more tricks he makes more money I believe. Then later on with experience there are some unbelievably cake and lucrative trucking jobs.otterinthewater Thanks this.
