Recently there was a construction worker that made a viral video. He explained how he teacher told him he would only amount to a construction worker or something along those lines.

I also remember a teacher telling me that I wouldn't be nothing but a trash man. Well trash truck drivers do pretty good. And I have been making more than her since I was 23 yrs old as a truck driver.

However teaching is a job you just have to love to do. Because your not going to make much doing it. That's what my aunt's husband use to say a lot. As he was a former school principal. But teaching along with several other jobs are professional work. But don't equal professional pay.

Having student loans that are more than you will ever make per year is what teaching seems to be. My aunt's husband use to also say "the jobs that a person get the most respect for dont pay anything". Fire fighters, police officers, teachers, etc are underpaid!!!

You can add truck drivers and airline pilots to that list as well. LOL

With that selfie, her posting seems more like an "all call" for some sugar daddy to come rescue her. But her heyday is gone. Typical, lol

What other profession can you work 3 months, take a week off, work another 3 weeks, take 2 more weeks off, work 2 more months and get another week of vacation, only to work another 2 months and call it quits for another 3 months? And then, despite having only worked the equivalent of 8 months (and even then, you get "holidays" granting you an extra day or two off each month), expect a yearly salary on par with those who work 50 weeks per year?

40K in 8 months is 60K for 12...sounds fair to me. If you only want to work 2/3 of the year, expect 2/3 the salary of any other working professional.

Thats dangerous thinking there Pedigreed. Plenty of professions dont work 12 months total but earn a years worth of pay.

What if we thought of it as 75k for the 8 months they teach? Should they end up in the poor house during the summer?

You want the people in charge of teaching, not the higher ups, principles and superintendents who do work yearly, but the actual teachers to be happy with their paying for raising your children to the best of their abilities?

If anyone needs a pay cut, its those 6 and 7 figure earners who take recess and breaks more than they actually work. Not making this political, just stating a teacher works 8-10 out of 12 months for 5 figures. Lawyers and lawmakers and the like make 6-7 figures to work less than they play golf.

How much of the "breaks" are spent grading, making lesson plans, or doing continuing education?

That said, its well past the point of changing the school calander. I'm in favor of 3 15-16 week semesters with stagered age starts. That way if you need to drop a kid back, you're only recovering a little and not the whole year.

That's a good idea - no elected official can make more than entry level teacher pay.

Once you've handed in your assignment, it's final. You're not allowed to make any corrections.
