You know, I see so many new drivers come on here, and just don't understand, trucking is not learned in a few months of truck driving schools. It takes many, many Hours and miles, in all sorts of weather to get good at it. They call us super truckers, well, darn right, after 43 years of my life and a few million miles, no accidents, no tickets, no incidents, its time and patience, and a lot of practice to reach this goal. Its earned not given.

Well I'll give you advice that may help you out a bit. Your most likely going to be in a 10 speed. Pay attention to your tach, never mind the speedo. A 10 speed is 400 rpm's between gears. So when you up shift take it out of gear @1600 and it will slide right in @1200. Since you don't have any experience double clutching I'd recommend single clutching. Use the clutch to get it out of gear, remember you only need to press the clutch down about 2 inches. Float it in gear you will feel when it wants to go in.

In all honesty if your a quick learner you might just be able to keep this job. I'm rooting for you also

Remember the only time you ever press the clutch all the way down is when your totally stopped. Remember don't shift with the Jake on.

Ever tell a fib to somebody important and then just keep digging the hole deeper? Horrible feeling. :)

And another job saving tip maybe, put it 4th leaving the yard so your not in 1st or 2nd screaming the engine and then grinding the piss out of it and looking like a total fool in front of all the guys in the yard. Just ease out real SLOW on the clutch so she doesn't buck around.

I hope the yards in a low traffic industrial area, get in a little practice before you hit the major traffic areas. And I hope you learned a valuable lesson here

    Yep, didn't say otherwise.

And there are companies that will hire people that have relatively little experience sight unseen without even a road test.

And there are companies so good with so little turn over that getting in the door is almost impossible.

All those coming together seems more than just a bit unlikely.

Whatever the reality is I hope it works out for him.

Thanks for your input. I've been watching a lot of youtube videos about shifting in a 10 speed and there a lot of great tutorials. I am unable to rent a truck, but what I've been doing for the past two days is going to truck stops and asking truckers how they shift. Most ignore me, but there have been some that take the time out of their day to show me how they shift. There have been two truckers so far that let me ride in the passenger seat while they drove around the lot upshifting and downshifting. Unfortunately, no one will let me get behind their wheel and give it a try..

I got a call from the company yesterday just confirming that I will be ready to go early monday morning so it's now or never.

    Will keep updated.

I feel like I’m watching a person in a barrel go over niagra falls and the barrel is like just about to go over but it hasn’t yet but at the same time it’s too late to jump out and swim to land.
