They are either really great folks or really dumb folks for hiring depending on how you look at things. Exceedingly generous of them but man you are lucky! Mind your Ps and Qs. Best of luck!

you really should stop taking digs at the people that told him EXACTLY how this was gonna turn out. Right down to the fact that if he was just honest they’d offer him some training. In fact, by NOT listening to experienced drivers here and just going for it, he almost cost himself the job.

He got lucky, and it isn’t because he didn’t listen to the “naysayers”- it’s in spite of it

Lucky for now. They might be expecting a “refresher day” and balk when they realize it’s a “training week”

If he'd have listened to some, he (or she) wouldn't have even attempted to show up the first day. Not taking shots at anyone, just stating what I see. Some of the responses on here would have one believe the OP is a complete idiot for trying such a thing. And I disagree. $80k jobs just don't fall out of the sky everyday, and if it takes a risk to attain such a job, so be it. Better to have tried and failed than not try at all.

Who knows, it might not work out. Then again, it might. Either way, at least he gave it a shot .And nobody can fault him (or her) for that

I agree to a certain extent, however when does the risk outweigh the reward? The OP could have taken that truck and trailer out into traffic, stalled and potentially killed himself or someone else. As others have said, he got lucky, now he should be giving it 110% everyday to prove his worth.

Moral of the story? Do we all make mistakes? Sure do, I'll be the first to admit I'm the furthest thing from perfect, no one is. However, the truth will always come out, better to admit that from the start than have to defend a lie later on. Best of luck to you OP.

He could have, but in reading his posts, I dont get the sense that the OP is the type that would wander into traffic not being at least a little comfortable with whats going on.

You know, if Winston Churchill didn't take the chances he did in WW2, in spite of the enormous odds against Great Britan, there might not be a Great Britan as we know it.

I get that, really I do. And I also understand that high paying jobs don't come along everyday. I'm wouldn't fault or dissuade anyone to better themselves,, just the opposite. I try to mentor the younger guys we work with and ensure they have all the tools that I had when I started years ago.

My point being, the folks that hired the OP are very forgiving apparently. Had he or she done that where I work, the owner would say goodbye in a heartbeat. He puts up with a lot at times, but you're dishonest to him or anyone else, you're gone and I can respect that. This could have all been avoided at the beginning, by being honest with the employer about his experience.
