I didn’t grow up around livestock, so it was really a learning experience when my friend sent me to Letohatchee, Alabama to load about 80 head. Several things I learned on my maiden voyage solo.
1. Close every gate behind you.
2. Tennis shoes are always a bad idea, especially in the loading chute.
3.Cows are fast, and a lot stronger than me.
4. A Charlois will kick for no reason, and it hurts a lot.
There are other things like loading by yourself at night. Trying to sort some out at the drops, finding your bills and load card at a place you have never been before, trying to work ratty gates in barns built in 1950. There are not a lot of people cut out for it, but I liked it a lot.wore out, Hulld, Tall Mike and 1 other person Thank this. -
And always load the heifers in back by the door where they’re easy to get to.
