Most don’t understand a 70 hour work week and 34 hour weekends. Many 80K company trucking jobs are less than 50K on a normal work schedule with weekends off.

Right, even 10 dollars an hour can make a great yearly gross salary if you're willing to work an inordinate amount of hours.

So I'm thinking I'll just keep my nose clean for a year or two, buy a used truck, and then lease onto tanker outfit. If I can keep my truck payments low and revenue high, I should make some halfway decent bucks. Whatcha think?

Ehh ain't about being able to purchase a truck or have the funds. It's more of how deep you understand the business in trucking. If not ask @Moose1958 he has live long enough to tell you the truth.

I made more in my first year with a bottom feeding carrier than most people with 5-10 years or more experience. It doesn’t matter as much what your rate of pay is if they don’t run you or you won’t run.

Oil fields doing what? Some jobs pay very well, others don’t.

    Whoa.

    Lots of rules?

    Wow.

Six months in and you think that money falls from the sky.

What you need to learn is this fact, you are just a driver. You are a commodity and these companies don't pay people big bucks for no experience, five years of an absolutely clean record is needed for real money. Learning your craft by actually learning. Putting miles on and doing the job right..

Those who think that you can't keep clean, they are full of it. There are a lot of drivers with two and three million miles that haven't had a ticket or an accident.

Your cdl is a crackerjack license, it gives you the doorway to good money but $100k is not going to happen.

I've made very close to 100k as a company driver. 25/hr working 60 or so hours per week with overtime after 40. Do the math. It's possible. Granted, I was moving equipment and that's somewhat specialized but it's certainly possible. I was home every night too since it was a local job.

That's what it's all about. I work to live not the other way around. I wish more would follow the lead and break free of the rat race.
