If your driving one of our day cabs you also carry a corporate lodging card.
We have both sleepers and day cabs.

Our tankers are day cab truck and trailers...west coast style... so the drivers usually sleep in their own beds. usually.
We haul a lot of fuel for a helicopter company that fights forest fires. A lot of times the load wouldn't fit the limited storage they had - usually a seven thousand gallon portable tank - if they hadn't flown much. They wanted the tanker to stay on site because it took too long for it to go back to town and return with the retain.
If the helicopter was operating from a spike camp with no storage we'd fuel it directly from the truck. We have special hoses for that with the appropriate fittings, filters, and a meter. The helicopters we were servicing burn about five hundred gallons an hour. Each. The drivers stayed on site way back in the woods...HOS were suspended.

One of the guys rigged a hammock between the back of the truck tank and the front of the trailer tank. He said he slept pretty good. The other driver scavenged a thick piece of foam rubber and laid it out on the trailer tongue. He said he slept like a baby.
They were glad when fire season was over, though.

I just drive around, empty. You can shift, climb grades and catch a left lane much faster this way. I'm on company PeopleNet, but the HOS rules don't apply to me. ;)

US Marshall told a driver at the lunch counter that was okay, @slim shady told me he heard it with his own two ears, only one of which is any good, mind you.... so that's what I do.

    /Intentional misunderstanding.

The hell you talking about? I just reset in a hotel or my house these days.

I still log probably 10 times a month. I’ve run 800 miles round trip in a day cab. Woke up in my bed went to sleep in my bed.

Speaking of west coast style tankers I wish I had one of those. Would be nice, kind of sucks when I only need 3000 gallons in a smooth bore. I got a straight truck too but I can only carry 6 totes and I’m still over weight but I’m good after my first stop.

Tank washes facility allow us to stay for free at there place. About 4 night out of 10 nights I am staying there, much more safe, and quiet.

BTW stop at Loves in Deep park , TX, it will blow your mind how many tankers you will see in 1 hour, not to mention how many of they taking free spots and going home...

Then you were speeding. Unless you did it in Texas. But that would still mean driving 10 hours at 80mph. And I meant they aren't doing 10 hour resets in their cabs. It's not even legal. The DOT mandates that you take sleeper berth time in an area that meets the legal definition of a sleeper berth.

I guess you can do your reset as off duty in a day cab though.

The regs say 10 hr break in any combination of off duty and/or sleeper berth. No where does it require any specific amount of hrs in the sleeper except for split log time.

I used to do that run once a week because my normal plant was down for two months.

I sped a little and ran a little over on drive time on paper logs. The marshalls never got me. Thankfully my runs are back to 500 miles round trip.

And yeah in a day cab you just clock out for 10 hours and you’re good to go. I don’t worry about the weekly cap because ill never work that many hours and have weekends off.
