The point others are trying to get you to explain is this:
Why is the owner of the truck safer on PC than a company driver? Also, what is the difference if running on hour 69 and 71 to the store 5 minutes away?

As for ADC covering it, you do realize it only allows one to get to the next safe location to park. No mention of the regs if there is a hotel nearby, Also, as stated before, daycab drivers tend not to expect having to shutdown, so may need to go a get anything from underwear to a supply of medications they have at home.

You are saying that an o/o is safe going to get that, while a company driver isn't. That makes about the least sense I've ever read here, and I keep up on the Bad Company Forum... :)

I never said anything about safety. It's about abuse, audits and litigation. Arguing opinion is like clapping with one hand. The both of you are trying to turn this into something it's not. I assure you I have many more opinions neither of you would like also.

What I can't figure out is why on earth do you care?. You don't own the truck, you don't pay for the fuel and you don't underwrite the liability insurance. If my company allows PC and I am doing it within FMCSA regulations what's your problem?.

You strike me as someone who takes the stance of "I don't like it, therefore I don't do it and no-one else should either".

Go live your life and don't concern yourself with the legal, ethical and moral actions of total strangers.

That "snowflake" reference has just exposed you for what you really are. Truly sad that such nonsense has spilled over into the new driver subforum.

    Ignore the word safety then.
Why is it abuse when a company driver does it, and it's not abuse for an o/o to do it?

I never compared the two and I never said only company guys can abuse the PC option. However, company drivers don't own the equipment and giving them the opportunity to abuse it at all is asking for trouble for a carrier. I wouldn't allow it. If they want to do something personal they can do it on the clock while they still have hours.

If a company driver is abusing the PC option it would be fairly simple for whoever is in safety to notice it and then discipline the driver. Same as you would for working outside any of the other hours of service regulations. I’m home on the weekends and don’t have to 34 on the road and I still use PC to get things done that I need to do during the week.

It's terrible sometimes. People net has a tendency to say drivers are in one place in the office, and meanwhile they are 650 miles away.

As much as I enjoy using the technology, it's not perfect and should have been tested more.
