I paid $550 at a community college for 8 weeks of school and got reimbursed. Don’t go in debt like that, look at the community college route if possible first. You might even qualify for a grant.
Will I get hired?

Thank you for all the replies. Yes I agree 10k is a lot of money.
The school is guaranteeing me a career between 38k and 45k per year. No room & board. Just my CDL and hopefully a career.
All the school is waiting on is for me to sign on the dotted line.
I’ll look around some more in Vegas but I am an out of state student. So we’ll see. -
AIT I'm guessing? I almost signed up for them, glad I backed out because that's a ripoff, especially since they'll push you into a werner truck when you are done. Go check out Southwest, I paid $4k and it's only 4 weeks.
As far as the driving record, you will probably not find a great job right away, but you can work at a lesser company for a while until all the bad stuff gets old enough for them to not care. By then you will also have a couple years of experience, as long as nothing goes wrong in the big truck you'll have good jobs waiting.Toomanybikes, Dan.S and SingingWolf Thank this. -
Let’s put it this way anything is better then working my $9/hr job. Which is why I was going to go with AIT because they are guaranteeing me a career. -
#### 10K to be a steerwheel holder, just go to crst, when you get your license just quit, I paid 1500.

I never worked for Werner, but from what I've read in my research you probably won't be making the 57k they talk about.
As long as you don't get any more tickets or accidents, you can get your CDL from anywhere and Werner will still hire you. So why pay 10k and waste all that time?
I literally moved to Vegas to go to AIT and was in the office about to sign on the dotted line, as soon as I starting doubting what they said, they gave me attitude. "Why are you worried about a 10k loan at 28% interest? Werner is going to pay it off anyway!" Yeah after like 2.5 years of indentured servitude.
I'm trying not to sound like an advertiser or shill, but my honest opinion: Go to southwest, try your hardest to get the WIA grant to pay for all of your schooling (you have to do all the legwork, but it'll pay for almost everything), and wam bam be done in a month. My class had 11 guys in it, 4 had their entire schooling paid for by grants, they just cover small stuff like DMV fees for a new license, and doctor visit for the DOT physical.
Disclaimer: I don't even have my CDL, I'm just a noob like you. I started at Southwest on the 5th of this month, I take my test tomorrow. I paid attention and did my homework, and I have absolutely no worries about testing. They taught me the basics I needed to pass the test, all the real training will be when you get hired somewhere. I have a prehire with Schneider through the school, they also brought in Werner recruiters who blow up my phone 2x a day begging me to apply for them. I'm going to apply everywhere and if all else fails, take them as my last option.Toomanybikes, Dan.S and SingingWolf Thank this. -
Yeah I’m definitely going to look into Southwest tomorrow morning.
And yeah I won’t be getting any tickets or accidents any time soon since I take the bus
I’ll look at the WIA grant as well especially if it pays for most of the schooling.
Thanks for the help man! You probably just saved me about 15k in extra student loans! -
Hey you guys. Don’t hate. Maybe it’s 6 months of resort hotel, spa, and CDL.
Streetroddreams, Dan.S, SingingWolf and 1 other person Thank this. -
Do you think if you go through a red light while driving under the speed limit it really makes any difference?
Or any safer, for that matter?
It actually leaves you in the intersection even longer after that light turned red.
Your thought process on this one is scary.Toomanybikes and IluvCATS Thank this. -
You are too scary for trucking.
