When you take the mirrors of somebody's tractor or worse, or somebody's nice personal trailer, and they don't give a F about the insurance, and proceed to whoop your ### properly right there, you'll stop being so lazy.

Some of the responses here remind me why I don't sleep in truck stops and never drop my trailer where I can't see it.
Or you guys are just company drivers and don't care.

Rub some dirt on it. You broke the first commandment of trucking.
    Thou shalt not hit anything!
But in the spirit of the holiday I think you can be forgiven.
    Happy Easter!

OK, just to grease up the monkey lets assume a driver has smacked a trailer and put a 10 inch scratch on it. It is a brand new unit. Said driver calls his company. What do you think the average company is going to tell said driver? I think most of us know the answer to this question. Lets say driver uses the QC system and now there is a record. Now what happens? Yep safety gets involved. Now there is a great chance the driver is going to get a preventable. Most likely won't lose their job. Is the trailer fixed? Nope! OK lets say a yard person at the yard observes said strike and notes it. What do you think are the chances this company will take it any further? Honestly the chances are slim to none. These trailers get the crap beat out of them. Have you ever seen the average yard dog and how they abuse them. I have watched these guys do 180s with fully loaded trailers and spin them and you can see the tandems and the tires under intense stress. I actually watched a yard dog driver at a place in Arkansas bust a tire doing this. In the case of a driver making contact with a trailer and causing a scratch I am more concerned about this driver and the attention they give to these tasks. Lets be clear here. This is one of those topics where some will take a holier then thou position. It's easy to take a cheap shot. However in realville where most of us live the benefits of turning in this kind of damage is by far outweighed by the negatives. You want to take a cheap shot here I hope the next time you are dropping in a tight yard you don't strike a trailer. However if you do PLEASE make sure you make a federal case out of it!

The only thing worse than a driver who hits stuff is a driver who hits stuff and attempts to escape responsibility for the damage he caused by fleeing the scene. There is a reason companies will fire you, and that's because they don't want you hitting stuff. This equipment is expensive, and that "minor" scratch might cost a few grand to repair PROPERLY. Somebody doesn't go out and spend $50K on a new trailer to have you play bumper cars with it.

No big deal dont worry about it.

Unless its Knight , Marten or Werner .... you could and often will lose your job over it.

If its Knight they will create a story around it and talk about God and the devil and heaven and hell and yes you will wonder what awful sin you commited in your life to get sentenced to knight.

I worked in the offices at transportation companies and it can get bad bad in some of them.
