Do every one of your loads have to get weighed on a scale? Or, do you simply multiply number of gallons X weight per gallon?
Starting my first tanker job tomorrow.

Most of them get scaled empty and heavy at both loading and delivery.
There is a chart on each tank that tells you how many gallons each inchof product is measured with a stick at the dome. You can multiply gallons by the product weight to get an approximate weight. This is used at rail cars and some racks to get a ball park weight before scaling. More common is a metering device on the pump.
You sometimes have to go back to the rack to remove or add product -

Yep, i do those alot, 5200 gal is 51000 lbs.
Almost always in a 7500 gal tank.
That and caustic 3800 gal is almost 50k also.
Anti freeze is definitely the worst for surgeCali kid Thanks this. -
It depends on the customer. Many have scales on site. Others use public scales nearby with accounts set up. Occasionally I had to scale light and heavy at truck stop scales and pay for it to be riembursed later.
It’s generalyy a PIA for off site scales because you have to go back after scaling for your paperwork.spindrift Thanks this. -

On my test drive the company put me behind the wheel of a fully loaded tanker and sent me through the S- curve in Grand Rapids Michigan, which through school I had never pulled a loaded trailer yet.
Love the job, surge isn't bad if your gentle with it. Anticipate your corners and don't be afraid to enter them too Slow.Click to expand...tommymonza Thanks this. -
