Hi. Recently I have changed the water pump on my series 60 engine. After that I see increasing white smoke coming from crankcase ventilation pipe. And smoke is coming a lot when temperature riches 190F and thermostats open. What could be the problem? There are no gases in coolant and no water oil mixture in crankcase. Engine has 520 k, no EGR... Thanks

What does your oil look like on the dipstick...is it the normal black or does it look milky? Are you adding a lot of coolant? My guess is you probably got a head gasket, or liner o-ring starting to go out. I would take it to a shop and have the coolant system pressurized with the oil pan off to check for leaks. If you don't want to do that at least swing through a Speedco or someplace and get a oil sample done. At least with the results from the oil sample you can have a better idea on whats going on in the engine.
Baack Thanks this. -
Just wondering where the tube is that you are talking about...might be the same thing? Although this is nowhere near a water pump. -
After a long run you will see a little "smoke" out of the tube. The "smoke" is usually just oil vapor along with a little bit of steam if the motor has been ran hard. Nothing major to worry about, unless you start seeing a lot of oil on the ground under the pipe.
I see in your profile pic there is a Schneider truck, are you a company driver or leased to them? I'm leased onto the Choice program with them. -
Pipe is located on passenger side of the engine. It comes out from valve cover and goes down you will see the end of that pipe if you look between wheel and bumper. -

Walk through the lot of any truckstop on a cold night and you can easily tell which trucks have Detroits - the ones with the white smoke wafting out from under the engines
-
Not just Detroits...my CAT does it constantly. Its cause of all the oil being sprayed around in the top end. I even have a filter installed on the vent tube, but it only slowed the oil loss from this problem.

After owning several Detroits, and talking with various mechanics, I was told, and have seen for myself, that all smoke, some just a lot more than others.
