Hello,
So I got a ticket in MD today. I loaded up in Philadelphia, and in Maryland, I had just passed the scale and they let me go with a green light but a little bit later, a cop was standing on the shoulder, and pulled me over. Looked at my log book and everything but gave me a ticket on my trailer hanging too much. I thought I wasn't supposed to exceed 41 feet, my load was light so I was at 35 feet. Also my tractor trailer is GVWR at 80,000. Cop wrote 120,000. But the ticket he gave me says:
REAR OVERHANG EXCEED 35%. REAR OVERHANG IS 14'11 (14.91) WHEEL BASE 35'1 (35.08) = 42%. I attached the picture of the ticket also. Please help me understand this. Thank you
Got a ticket in Maryland, REAR OVERHANG EXCEEDS 35%.

Looks like you may have had a 53 foot trailer, and the trailer tandems were slid all the way up? They don't like this, I guess because of the potential tail swing encroaching into other travel lanes in tight turns. Weight or lack of is irrelevant in this matter.

Hi, Thank you for the reply, Yes they were slid all the way up. Anyway to fight it or bring the fine lower? Cop gave a 530 dollar ticket

I don't think you gonna have any luck fighting that ticket

Isn't that grounds for dismissal if you take it court.

Always go to court in MD!!! If anything, especially if it's a large docket that day, they will lower the fine. Good luck!

$530!!! Ridiculous! Those ####s give tickets as if we were millionaires.

If I recall correctly, I believe Maryland and Michigan have a maximum overhang regulation for tail swing. Most companies I've worked for have a stop bar usually around the 39 ft mark on a 53 ft trailer.
Preet Singh Thanks this. -
Which agency wrote the ticket?

...fight it... Give your side... Show your picture as evidence...ask for court date, delay once or twice, then go to court. If officer doesn't show, case dimissed. for 530 , fight it
