I too am a relatively new driver with Prime. I'm company now, but I'm about to go lease. I realize it's not nearly as financially sensible to lease in the long run as opposed to buying my own truck, but that's why I want to lease a used truck that only has a 12 or 18 months left to go on the lease. That way I'll have just enough time to get my feet wet with running my own business and bank up some money so that when I complete the short lease, I can go to a dealership and have the money, credit, and experience to confidently buy a $150k rig. Whether or not I'll stay with Prime at that point is completely unknown. All in all though, I feel that prime is a decent company, and certainly no worse than any of the other megas.

Prime is a school, company that makes huge money on silly truck driver students, they make money, pure business. They dont care about drivers, you are a number at prime. All those parties, meetings, barbeque is for office guys not for drivers, you as a driver live in your truck. My buddy in NYC making 1500 per week delivering bread night time, home everyday. You on the road like a dog, dont see family or friends become lone wolf and making 1300-1700?? Is it a good pay? No it is not and the reason is because at prime you are getting ripped off big time. I am not saying Prime bad company, NO, Prime is a decent company, well organized but you are just a number at prime, a dunkey pulling fright for Prime to make money on you.Sales at prime rule the world, dispatchers are nobody, dont like one fhim, get another one - but it wont help you, cause sales rule.So they make money for themselves and you as a driver at prime on the bottom of food chain, things rolling from driver up, and they manipulate it.
Overall working for Prime is waste of time, low pay, huge rip off, slavery.
I averaged after one year with prime 1.49 dollars per mile doing lease - it is very low. And that is where they make money, students run cheap paying freight and sales getting all the money in their pocket. I was living in the truck.Did one year and quit next day as soon as one year passed. Prime is a student company, you can not jump over your head at Prime, they owe every single student big time for getting big bucks and you getting none for putting to much of an effort. Not worth it. -
Added to this the only companies that "might" get close to that are food service companies like McLane or US foods.. Sorry but getting up at 4am and unloading my own truck and not getting home til 6pm to sleep in a bed is not better to me..
My goal isn't to own my own truck.. my goal us to make the most money I can this year. At the end I will decide if I stay in trucking or take my saved money and go back to my previous business.
If I stay in trucking, I #### sure won't be making company pay.
For the record I think you guys over react on the $1500.. that is a average.. 3 weeks ago I took home $2,9k.. this week I took home $1,7.. It's really just 1 week that I was put in the negative that lowers my average and that was my 3rd week out. I've also done several 34hr resets or taken a random day off here or there.. which is why I had 2 weeks below $1k (like 900ish) which also hurt that average.
I think you guys impose your experience on everyone else and say oh I wouldn't work for this or do that.. Well maybe you don't have to because you aren't a new driver. Maybe you live in a area with better local freight options..
The simple fact is most local companies are not hiring people with less than a years experience and they aren't gonna start them off making over $1,5/week which is $78k/year.. -
Yet your in the lease forum.. why? -
How much does your buddy pay for rent or his house in NYC? How far does he commute each day? How much time after his commute and work day is over does he stay at home each day?
Has your buddy managed to save $20 grand in the last 20/weeks?
For the record, how many of you guys who are telling me you wouldn't work or do what I'm doing have managed to save a thousand a week? Since I've started doing what I'm doing I've saved $20 thousand. By the end of my 1st year I will have $50 in the bank..
50 in the bank will do a hell of a lot more for me than sleeping in the same bed for 8hrs each day and hurrying off to not be late the next morning..
How many people go off to the military to get shot at for $26k/year and people tell them that's a good deal to sleep on a cot in the desert.. Meanwhile, driving a truck at a mega is getting taken advantage of..Last edited: Apr 6, 2018

You actually like it.
You have to work 20 weeks straight to make
A living. Lol.
That's 5 freaking months for 1200 bucks a week
And your proud of that.ridgerunner77 and homewr3cker Thank this. -
Another first year rookie know it all.
We're all old and dumb having been out
Here 25 years.
He's figured out already how to become
Rich leasing a truck from prime.
The 50 thousand drivers before him that failed
And went broke with prime were all just lazy
And didn't know how to run a business.
They actually wanted to go home at least
Once every 3 months. Lol.
They must be sitting in that corporate office
At prime laughing there ### off.
They've actually convinced these suckers
That working 5 months straight is something
To be proud about.ridgerunner77 and homewr3cker Thank this. -
I can understand working like a dog to bank some money for a year. If you have a plan to get your own truck.
You appear to have your head above water. Good luck and don’t do that forever thoughtruadvocate Thanks this. -
Ofcourse my buddy has a lot of expenses but he is living his life.
Prime is not perfect, i am now at smaller flee(150 trucks) company, after Prime. Just to compare, i make 6500 in 3weeks than take one week off, here there stay longer home, rules are at the company minimum 3 weeks on the road. They buy me airplane ticket going back to Maine from Chicago and returning back to Chicago after home time, etc other perks. Company driver, no stress that i had with lease. I dont have 20 years under my belt experience but, just compare 2 companies Prime where i strated and where i am now is a big difference.Although thanks to Prime it made me sensitive money wise - dont waste time and resources.I feel more relaxed now, money even better than at Prime.
You do what you are doing, feel happy, i am glad for you that it is what you like. No, not for me, i felt screwed at Prime.
If anyone has a bit of intelligence he will not continue work at Prime, got CDL, finished 1 year, run, planty of companies around, or start your own if you really love this lifestyle and business.
Important to communicate with other guys from other companies, fast will get to the point that something not right at Prime, why pay so low.
Or another example, have other friend that works basically same style as all people at Prime, he leases his truck from one company and works as O/O in another, so his cheque is around 18000$ a month, +/- 3000 depend on the month. His weekly truck lease is 820 dollars, just do the math. How could it be I leased at Prime, runned like crazy, no social life, stress, and i end up lower than company driver at other smaller companies? Answer is simple, I was screwed by the company, they get the money and drop for me a little what they think driver worth. Communication is important, and new information, thus you can compare what you have and where you want to be.Last edited: Apr 6, 2018
