If US Cold storage had showers, I would. Unfortunately, I can’t leave their parking lot and go to the Petro, which is only a few miles away, because it would put me in violation of the HOS.

Son you are racing the wrong one, and for the wrong reasons.. You do not park where I do, and I do not have to race anyone. Any unsafe driving you are doing in some convoluted effort to "beat" other people furthers my belief most of you have no business out here.

Why you people try and create so much drama in your life for such a simple job is beyond me.

Yes Daddy. I agree. Less drama would do me good. But how come you're always parked in the best spot every time I get to that Love's?

It makes him an owner operator. A lease operator is a guy that leases a truck from a carrier.

14 hour rule is a part of HOS/ELDs. HOS/ELDs is all about safety. A nap is all about safety too. 14 hour and a power nap don't line up too well. What's more important for the safety sake; a nap or 14 hour limit?

Do you think it (14) has achieved it's intended purpose?
Do any of you think that this has actually promoted safety?
    Do the statistics justify this?

No, not necessarily. I think it was a wash. I think for some, the new HOS helped lead a safer driving schedule. For others, it "forced" them to drive faster and perhaps more aggressive then they otherwise would have, racing against the 14. On balance, no improvement. There's just a hell of a lot more trucks and motorists on the road. And of those larger numbers, there also is a higher percentage of "bad drivers" ... poorly trained, impatient, naturally aggressive, bad skills, distracted, etc, etc. With this in mind, there's going to be more numbers of serious crashes. I think the number of crashes that can be directly attributed to drowsy or fatigued driving is actually probably very minuscule. Also, I'm certain many survivors of crashes where distracted driving was the real cause, state they "fell asleep" as a means to divert fault assumption of investigators and bosses onto a more "understandable" plane.

The current HOS is more of a potential drag or nuisance for some [on some days] than anything else. It demands VERY careful planning and thinking much further ahead then some are adept at doing. It also requires some "luck" and an absence of a lot of bad luck. But I always say "we ourselves are responsible for much of both the good luck and the bad luck we experience", not all, just a lot. So, if you're always having hell dealing with HOS and eLogs, you're probably still at a loss to figure how to modify your schedule and behavior, and that's on you. Not on me or the FMCSA.

I don't like the current HOS rules but I would not want to drive in a world with No meaningful HOS limits. I know the human condition too well. we have enough distracted drivers out here. We don't need to add a bunch of fatigued drivers, regularly driving 14+ hours per day.

For me and in they type of OTR running I do, and rarely going home, the only thing I really would like to see is to eliminate the 70/8 rule. Having to shut down [prematurely] because of this is much more senseless then having to shut down because of the 14.

800 is fairly easy to do you can 1200 and still get a couple hours of sleep if you don't stop at every truck stop you see
