Hmmm....$185? I take it you are driving someone else's truck.

I'd concure, a lot of rude people work in rails. Combo of entitled ######## who are over-paid for what they do, are union, so they know they can't get fired, and some that are bitter they "settled" for this, however, for the most part, if they had to get a job someplace else, they'd be in for a rude awakening as to the pay cut they'd take.

Not everyone in rails are this way. Sounds like you happened across a angry bunch. Don't let it bring you down.

When I am new at something, I always state that right from the get-go, apologize for not knowing the "routine", that sets most people into a mood of at least wanting to help.

I am the same way. When I go to a new drop, I walk inside and tell them what I have. They ask me what door I am on, and I tell them I don’t get on a door until I am told by them. After I go there a few times, then I will, but I don’t want them thinking I am not respectful.

Your old school! I do same thing! You can't walk in like you own the place, nobody going to like you. .be friendly, just not ####y. Once you know routine, then be more casual. But, someone new comes along, you might get barked at.

I don't open doors at new places either...dont want to set off alarms or break something I don't know how to work. I always try to stay patient and understanding. They already have enough rude dicks in the place, both outside drivers and employees

    Good comnent.

I took this to heart when I worked at a food distribution. The warehouse manager told me that while I was out, a Werner driver backed in without checking in first. Our guy sat watching her back into the dock for close to 1/2 hour. When she came in he said "that was some fancy backing, but I need you at door 6!"

I never back into a place I've never been before checking in!

Oh, that is funny, I can only imagine how POed that driver was. 1/2 hr to get backed in? That is bad!

I used to work for a food distributor as well, in fact, they used to "make" cooking oil. Not that you can really make it, more so, they bought truck and rail car loads of it on the open market and packaged it into different sized containers. I was a tanker driver, so, we delivered truckloads to large food makers.

We had a pretty tricky, fairly tight dock, not well suited for long, stretched out trucks...big cement retaining wall at one end, covered, not well lit with poles in between each dock, not a lot of space in between.

I watched a guy back in by lining himself up on an angle, putting it into reverse, while the truck was rolling back, he got completely OUT of the cab, stood on the running boards in his slip on sandals facing backwards, and steered the truck into the dock, and, just before he got all the way in, jumped back into the cab to stop it.

I was dumbfounded. I have never witnessed anything like it in my life. What truck driving school do they teach THAT method at??? I went immediately inside and told both the safety manager and the dock manager what I just witnessed. Needless to say, they spoke to the driver, and I never saw him come in with a load again.

Everybody needs a driver, especially in the container business, usually that is because the pay and conditions are horrendous. Good luck to you. I am in Chicago, know nothing about AL other than what Neil Young sang decades ago. I have been there a few times, I don't think he was too far off...at least at that time.

I sure haven't, if it is container loads, I would imagine they suck. I have yet to see a container load worth a darn hauling. If it is regular dry van freight, rates are over $2 mi and in some places over $3. So, I guess that depends on if you are going to be an O/O or a company driver.

gotta see the rates we are getting at our co., lol absolutely ####ing insane, local or regional.

minimum average local run with 30 miles is getting me $400-$500
minimum average regional run within 200 miles is getting me $900+

I am not lying. I'll provide settlements if needed to prove otherwise. Go ELD!!!
