Apparently the truck driver was uninjured, he was initially taken into custody for questioning, but was released.

So that's a $200 ticket in SK? Failing to stop. Civil cases will follow possibly.

Checked out that intersection on google earth. Looks like the stop sign has a flashing light also.

I also saw 5 crosses near the scene, presumably from a previous bad crash.

oh yeah, the truck driver will be inundated with lots of lawsuits.

best to start selling everything he has, his insurance will only cover so much, since apparently he ran the stop sign.

heck, i wonder if they can deny any claims as well, really putting the screws to him...

Not likely. This is in Canada. He will likely only suffer mental anguish if he has any conscience

Government no-fault insurance in SK (unless previously declared tort option)... VERY limited options for compensation. The compensation options get better IF the truck driver is convicted of criminal negligence. Although criminal negligence is very hard to prove, it may be a possibility given the scope of this tragedy. However, public shock and sentiment will not sway the judiciary.

There are civil suits, but nothing on the scale of what occurs in the U.S.
