Depending on your job classification/route/terminal etc. here at UPSF you generally won't/don't have to work the dock.

The only heavy dockwork i did was when i did niteliner.

When i was with NEMF you didn't have to work the dock. But this could have changed?

What's wrong with dock work? You drive around in a forklift all day...vroom...vroom...unloading reloading trailers. Nothing difficult about the job. And you'll get paid a lot more than someone who's working in a warehouse. JMO

XPO is specifically known for drivers doing double-duty on the dock, but I'm not sure if that's mostly on P&D, linehaul, or both.

Dayton Freight doesn't (generally, at most terminals on most bids). I'm pretty sure Estes and Old Dominion P&D drivers aren't required to, either.

    Where are you located?

I have a brother in law that drives for XPO. He works the dock a couple hours most every night, but he's linehaul. I'll have to ask if P&D loads their own too.

Some p&d drivers work the dock. It really depends on the shift you end up with at bid time. The guys with a little rank pick positions that won’t require it. I personally go for positions that make money and don’t mind a little dock work as long as it’s not a large part of my day. Couple hours here and there no big deal. I’ve been with XPO for a little over 2 years and it’s not a bad gig. Much more organized then Estes was. Worked for them for about 4 years.

He’s right. I’m 18 years in, night linehaul for most of it. Work almost every night.

If you get hired you will work the dock at xpo. Guaranteed. Sometimes a whole shift.
