Sounds like you might be getting "up in arms" over an opinion that does not fit your comfort zone?

Why do you suppose that is?

It's not an opinion, it is the rules all drivers not running their own numbers operate under, that I CLEARLY LINKED TO AND PASTED.. Like I said go tell the FMCSA they are wrong. I'm done with this silly crap.

    "All drivers"?

That is not true, many of us don't do the wrong thing because the government, or a company suit or an insurance company tells us to.

CYA may make you feel good but if anything bad ever happens you will know who actually made the decisions; and it won't be any of those people

You better re-read the original post. Its because he was told he had to wait 2 months to have his wife on the truck, IE...passenger. Not autonomy.
When you DON'T own the truck. You have very little autonomy in its operation. Aside from SOME routing, fuel stops and breakdowns.

2 months sounds like a probationary period to me.

I once had a owner tell me I wasn't ALLOWED to make any decision other then which lane the truck was in. They said they never had a driver quit as fast as me. California Delivery Service, Fontana, CA.

when you get your own truck, your own MC numbers, your own insurance, etc, etc, you do as you want.

when you drive for a company, it's all done thier way...very simple concept..

The day when a driver was handed a set of keys to a truck and told to hit the road are for the most part over. More and more along with QC GPS tracking are now things like camera's looking back at the driver. I drove a truck once that had a hard brake tattletale. Trucks are also starting to come out with forward and side looking sensors. You just don't have a lot of leeway in these kinds of situations. Even the QCs today keep up with overspeed %. Some of the freedoms drivers in my generation had when we started won't be there in 10 to 20 more years. Get used to it. If your operating someone elses property some privacy and other things are gone!

And my friend, that is exactly why you get all these other guys out there that WONT think. Your message gets beaten in to them, and then your crowd freaks when they do exactly as they are instructed..."DON'T THINK"

I have no problem with someone MONITORING my driving. But when I am at the wheel, I am the captain of that ship, and I WILL think and make decisions for myself, within the scope of reality, and the law.

Move up north. You might not be “free”, but you can take whoever you want in the truck without a bunch of nonsense paperwork and extra requirements. Guess it depends on your definition of “free” - being told that you are free, or just doing what you want and not getting in trouble.

I worked with a guy who at one point had himself (the only employed one), his wife, his oldest son, his oldest son’s fiancée, his infant grandson and several pets living in the truck with him. Then his youngest son got out of jail and moved in the clown car with them. They spent an entire summer like that, and as long as they stayed out of the USA (I’m sure there was more than 1 criminal record, and very likely a bit of drug use going on) they were just fine.

Border crossing complicates this issue for Canadians, since all occupants of the truck have to have digital pre-entry information entered. As long as you’re happy running east-west, I don’t think there are any rules about who’s in your truck.

This thread is starting to get rather stoopid.
