States don’t have to report who buys red fuel. You can pay at the pump and put red fuel in in MT. I’ve had my tanks dipped more in MT and SD than anywhere else.

Just run coloured diesel in both trucks and you'll save a ton. It has changed colour because it has gone past its "best before" date... that's why it is discounted.

I rarely see dyed fuel available at the average gas station these days. Once in a while there'll be a gas station that sells dyed 91 octane boat gas at a seperate pump so they can monitor usage. Cardlocks have dyed diesel and gas though which is nice. Cheap gas for the lawn mower at least lol.

In my comment the states have no input. This is FEDERAL fuel tax reporting. Remember when you buy fuel you pay BOTH state and Federal.

What I’m saying is they’re not keeping track of who buys it, likely only the gallons sold. Even if paying cash you just call inside and ask them to turn the pump on.

In my original comment I said wholesalers. It is my (unconfirmed) understanding that fuel company suppliers have to make reports to the IRS of non tax paid fuel sales. I have no idea who or what the retailers do.

Nobody? The IRS folks went and dipped tanks at a local livestock auction years ago. Caching!

    SAR Thanks this.

I'm with you. I have seen IRS agents dipping tanks. It does happen.

Not4, as much as I think it is mean there will be some who will actually think this is true.

I've got friends that work as investigators at the IRS and this subject has been brought up out of a course of a conversation, and they said unless the guy is running thousands of gallons of off road fuel, they are highly unlikely to care about $50 worth of taxes.
