Cuz you don't wanna get down some road and there's some 2 ton bridge at the end.

I ain't entering anywhere I don't know how to get out of.

 

When it absolutely can't be done. When I'm straight-up Not Gonna Fit. In this case, it could be done...'cause I did it. Not that it wasn't scary, but I've actually gotten in a worse situation on a paved driveway.

But that's another story, which is rather embarrassing to tell...

 

We're (my employer) supposed to be a "curbside only" company. But, sometimes that curb is 60 ft up a driveway.
Other times you look, and KNOW it ain't happening. Then again, maybe its me and my own cowardice. I will look and decide whether or not, and then don't let the customer try to bully me.

I knocked down a small pine tree the other day when my tires slipped while backing into a driveway. That, if not for the ice, I would have had no problem with. One day BEFORE road bans went on.
Now, no dice. Not going down the road at all. Even some of our county roads are 4 ton axle weight 20 ton gross. I don't even go down those county roads.

 

Yeah, ice and snow would have thrown a whole other wrench into the works. That's one reason I moved to Arizona and I'm staying here!

 

Exactly. I'm quite diplomatic in explaining that gravel and pallet jacks are not friends, and that your neighbor would be more than slightly upset if I took out his mailbox, half his fence and his chihuahua trying to get into your driveway.

 

We have a special driver with us right now (for how much longer is debatable).

He willingly went down a 6 Ton restricted road, and got caught, at 20K over weight. To a customer who had previously moved to a new, LEGAL to access with any type of truck, location.
Fine around $4200 and change.

He then did it AGAIN, the next two days running. Without getting caught those two times. After being told NOT to go down restricted roads.

Today, he complains that the company won't pay the fine, when others would. Don't we have insurance for that? He asked.
His other argument is that since the company "sent him there" We should pay the fine. Never mind that he drove past the new location of this customer. Because the bills said to go to the old address. This "special driver" IS AWARE of the customers new location. He drove right past it on his way to the old location.

How do your companies handle weight issues.

We will pay scale fines, but not deliberate fines like this.

 

We do not request or require drivers to go on a restricted road. Call the customer, see if they can meet you at a leagal and safe place, or tell them it will be sent via small vehicle courier when it gets back to the shop.

 

"SD" was neither required, nor requested to do this.
He had in fact been given the Cheat sheet that we all are (at my employer) this time of year regarding restricted roads and how to avoid them. He did it anyway.
He hasn't been with is for more than a couple months. I don't know who did or how much training he got prior to being given his first solo load.
