Unfortunately all of you have had to sit for at least 34 hours at a time at any given truck stop. Most of you have also had to sit for longer periods here and there.
I know that some extra sleep is always nice. Time to play solitaire, video games or watch movies is also good. BUT, there are times when you feel like you could go out of your mind if you sit at that stop for another minute!
SO.. I'd like to try and post a Things to Do, list of places within five miles of noted truck stops from the list of truck stops posted by Roadkill439342. It might take me a bit, but, like life, it will be a work in progress. I am going to start with Wyoming and go backwards, alphabetically. No gaurantees the places found will be in business, but I'll do my best to check first.
I don't think I'll have to tell any of the veteran drivers where to go if you're looking for a good coffee shop, a place to play cribbage or maybe a bowl a few frames. Actually I was hoping to gather some more ideas to list here, so feel free. If you do post, maybe you could put the initials of the state of where the business is located in the subject line.

Minerals, meteorites and Wyoming jade, what kind of rock are you looking for? There's also hands on exhibits of fossils and minerals. From the Natrona County area, dinosaur excavation displays, includes a T. rex skull, and the leg and skull of a brontosaurus. I like the sounds of this place - although I don't know if they actually have the sounds of "what a dinosaur might sound like" display.

You could also take 1-2 online college courses while waiting. Usually you have 1 week to do your posts and 8 weeks to do 1-2 papers, when you need to take the mid-term & final, go to the nearest college where you may be sitting and have it faxed there for a proctor to administer the tests. Before you know it, you could have an associates or a bachelors in a anything you have pursued. Education is tax deductible & time flies at the stop when you do the courses.
airforcetoo and RBPC Thank this. -
There is a game called geocaching where folks hide things and you go find them. I usually see a few within a mile or two of where I stop.
