Im in the same boat, CDL A with hazmat, tank, metalcoil and doubles and triples but no experiance other the driving school and 20 years of straight tank truck. Good luck with Swift. Dont put any thought into what you read about any company. They all have their ups and downs. Me, Im going in with no exprctations at all. Hell, Im a newbie at this. 20 years of straight truck means nothing when it comes to what I'll be driving.

Thanks and good luck to you too! I like that Swift has "Comfort Zones" and I can run the North East and be home about every week, according to what they say. I have old experience with swinging beef and tanker from late 70's to early 80's which means nothing really with no recent experience. Your right don't believe anything you hear and half of what you see!

Do you think Roehl isn't answering their phones or returning my calls because of the holidays? Or maybe they're screening them. :biggrin_2559:

I'm sure it's because of the holidays. I've called them a number of times recently and DuWayne (in driver recruitment) has either answered the phone or returned my call promptly. I'm impressed by the professionalism displayed by DuWayne and the others at Roehl.

Professional attitude and courteous demeanor are sadly missing from many of the companies I've spoken to. If companies treat those they are recruiting poorly (you would think they would put their best foot forward so to speak) you have to wonder how they treat their drivers.

Hope everyone has had a wonderful and joyous Holiday season so far. And may we all have a prosperous, happy and safe 2009.

    Best Regards,

    October Guy

    October Guy,

Thanks for the information. I will wait and see if I hear from a recruiter around the first of the year. Courtesy and professionalism are very important to me, as well, and I would hope they would be traits that companies require drivers to possess.

If I may ask, what other factors contributed to your decision to pursue Roehl? I have been leaning heavily towards Crete, and after reading Bunny's posts, I'm now taking a hard look at Celadon.

Best of luck in the coming weeks.

    Andrew

Celadon does not take students. You must have a minimum of 3 months plus driving school, or 1 year to drive for them.

Thanks, Lilbit. I actually knew that, I'm just thinking ahead a "lilbit". :biggrin_25525:

Crete is a great company, and I'm pretty sure I could get hired on out of school. The only thing that concerns me is their home time policy. I get the impression that it is hard to get home working with Crete, which won't sit well with my wife. :biggrin_25512:

Roehl and Celadon both seem to have home time policies that sit much better with her. At least that's the way it seems.

My hubby gets home on the date he puts in for with them. There was only one time they did not get him home on time, but that does happen. Mix up with a load.

Always helps to have your eye on other options!

    andrew5184 Thanks this.

I want to thank so many folks on here I would not know where to start. I have been a non-member for over 2 years but have read and observed. Many good and bad but such is life as I already know. Special thanks for keeping my "watching" to ####y (where are you my man?), then there is Whispers ( your husband, you? have not seen in a while), then there is Road Dog ( like my Dad and such a good advisor based on experiance), Road Dog, I did read you retired, If you ever decide to come back and need a "team Driver" would be so proud to make some money with you and could sleep while your drove my man! Lilbit, you always kept it going and I appreciate that. Tough times right now but also the time-of-the-year.

Wish I could thank you guys all over all forum's but can not (neebie) but you have influenced me and a lot of things that will affect my life and world. Want to THANK everyone for this forum and everyone that post on here (good and bad (both good))

Roehl has been on a hiring freeze which will hopefully break by the end of the month. Dont quote me on when it will break.
