I finally remembered to ask this question about trucks or trailers that lift their axles

The cops love to watch loaded tri-axle dump trucks trying to pull this one. Then they can sock them with a huge overweight ticket.

    Brickwall and DSK333 Thank this.

Running empty it sure saves a bunch with a spread axle trailer though.

You'll be screwed if that sensor fails and lifts when heavy

All depends on how it was plumbed. If it was plumbed right they would wire it so it takes power to lift it. So that way if the sensor fails or it losses power it drops. Or at least that how I would wire an auto drop/lift axle.

    TruckRunner Thanks this.

I just started a 6x 2 thread as i'm close to buying a new tractor. On those tractors with lift axle, when down can you lockout the axle?

If and when they "break" , the default on Hendrickson smart lift is the axle deployed..... Down. As normal.

Volvo "Adaptive load" system had a override I thought that can deploy "as normal".

They do not need lifted to back up like a dump truck with a "Steerable" lift axle.
