Why is that?

I'll guess cuz it's the same as us reefer guys hauling fresh chicken? LOL

Must be lack of decent rates...

 

LOL I guess so. I was raised on a cattle ranch. Only hogs we had were what my mom bought at the meat market. I raise a steer in grade and high school for the fair. I just never got into hogs unless I can shoot one witha 223 from about 75 yards. I like their bacon though.... with eggs. Oh No!!!! maybe I supposed to be a chicken hauler. God help me!!!

 

Side track from topic - I have killed wild freerange hogs here in Wisconsin, with a 338 Win Mag. And yeah, they are very fine eating, let me tell you.

Okay, sorry to hijack.

Anyways, back on track here, please elaborate on the differences, merits, and idiosyncrasies between the hauling of beef type cattle, vs hogs.

 

The only problem I have with hogs is that I dont know anything about them. I wasnt raised with them ( dated a few though) they wernt real pretty but entertaining as heck.....off subject again!!! I just havent been around them so I dont understand them....Thats it (plus they stink). Cattle I know what they are gonna do, where they are gonna move...and by looking at one, I can tell if he/she is gonna come at me, jump a fence. I can tell pretty much who her calve is. I can tell if she is gonna calve before I load her, or if shes just to weak to put on the truck. The only thing I can tell you about a pig is that it has a curly tail ( and it stinks).

 

Ya know in my opinion!! If you have a good resume, and are willing to learn. Then find an outfit thats mission is to transport livestock, and Im sure there is someone within that Co that you can tag along with and learn the ropes. Like I said earlier, I think everyone should do it once, just SLOW DOWN and plan ahead. being around the livestock just comes with time...Just my opinion again

 

What kind of work is there in Florida for cattle hauling? I see quite a few truck running I-75, not sure where they're going to or from though.

 

It's gotta be good. I see bull wagons runnin in Florida all the time. Cattle ranching in Florida is bigger than many would guess.

 

Yeah, I see a lot of them running the 75 corridor when I come out of the house or head home. I'd love to get on with somebody pulling a rack.

 

Hauling cattle right now is really tough to get into, with the downturn in the economy and the downturn in cow calf operations nationwide.

I would not recomend anyone to start hauling cattle at this time.

I am now and have been all my life in the cattle hauling business and my office gets around 150 calls a week from drivers wanting to start hauling livestock. we also get an average of 60 calls a week from drivers with several years exp hauling stock looking for a driving job due to the fact of trucking co's going under.

Please don't think I'm wanting to rain on your parade, just telling you what I see.
