Leaving yourself an out does not mean running on to the shoulder. It means to stay vigilant of everything happening on the road. It means you're supposed to know traffic is stopping ahead or if somebody is encroaching upon your lane.
Actually... You're supposed to MAINTAIN your lane in any case of an accident.
why are trucks driving in the middle lane(s)?

I'll drive in middle lane. Too slow traffic and merging/exiting idiots. 4 wheelers speeding 15 mph over in the far hammer lane, so middle lane is the safest for big trucks.

Oh,, so YOU'RE the guy I keep passing on the right?
Triple digit,,, nah,,, there's always a faster fish,, er truck.
Sincerely,,,,
The low flying aircraft. -
Not unless you or those Mega Carriers trucks can run triple digits. lol. I ain't seen one yet.

Please please spend a little time watching what happens to trucks in the slow lane. Most drivers only mentioned merging traffic and that is a concern but what nobody has bothered to mention is the amount of insane cars that will risk everything just to get around a semi in the slow lane and for what? Oh yeah they want to be 1st in line at the red light at end of off ramp. So we can't just worry about merging cars we also have to watch our left for suicidal idiots who think taking an off ramp behind a semi will ruin their day! Inconvenience is the last worry I have. I simply feel much less stress and anger when I'm in the lane that allows cars to use as many right lines as they need to drive like a race car driver. Just like I'm sure you have routines and ways to avoid things that stress you out at work. We are at work behind the wheel and I'm sorry that this bothers you. Just remember cars have all the rights on a highway system that was built for freight not for commuters. Look it up.Trucker61016 and lovesthedrive Thank this.

I can remember the theories I used when getting on the freeway before my CDL. I didnt give trucks the respect I have now. Now I willingly fall behind to the truck.
Back then it was, Oh he is slow moving and doesnt have the manuevering to my vehicle. What people would learn if they were trained to drive a truck -
IMO, since this nation lives on wheels... it should be taught in school how to share the road with big heavy vehicles... not saying folks should learn how to drive a truck but at least they should be taught how trucks operate and how to safely share the road with them...Trucker61016, lovesthedrive and JReding Thank this.

And I would like to know why, WHY four wheelers in general take soooooooo long to pass a truck?

They come fast but then slow down and drive "forever" near the tail of the trailer and "forever" to pass the truck...
Don't they realize if anything happens like a tire blow out or something on the road that forces them to swerve, they may be hit?
Trucker61016, lovesthedrive, skellr and 1 other person Thank this. -
All I know is,
When I get off duty, my 4wheeler doesn't have a limiter.
I do believe by the end of that ramp,,, 65-70 will seem like a quaint notion.
lovesthedrive Thanks this. -
I've almost hit several dumba.. Troopers flipping a uy on the highway. Gonna kill people to get a real bad speeder...lovesthedrive Thanks this.
