Had a phone call from the regional manager today and talked with him about a dedicated and an LTL position both out of Charlotte, NC. I have never done linehaul but that's probably the way I'm leaning. That trip would take me to Atlanta and back and then hit 3/4 local stops in the Charlotte area. The pay is hourly and he said I would come in at top pay which he said was $22.35/hour. He said it was straight time for about an average of 50/55 hours per week. I'm currently making $21.25/hour working about 60 hours a week with time and a half at $31.87/hour. It's Monday-Friday with every other Saturday on. My question guys/girls is AAA Cooper a good move and a good way to get into linehaul? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide, it's most appreciated.

Really, it depends on you. I'm OTR, and I turned down an opportunity to work for these folks at night and go home every morning. AAA is a decent company, but driving all night and working the dock just didn't appeal to me.
Is your current job daytime? If it is, I'd stay there.Bob Dobalina Thanks this. -
Current job varies on hours. Can start anywhere from midnight to 8am in the morning. We typically will run 10/12 per day, or early morning and be done for the day. When it rains we don't work but we're guaranteed 40 hours per week if we get washed out even if we only ended up working 15 hours total for said week. -
Have you looked into Old Dominion, Estes, or Southeastern? Pay is extremely low in comparison and sounds like you'd be going backwards from where you are currently. Might be a good stepping stone to be more attractive to other LTLs in the future though. But I've always been against even sideways moves.

I never see their trucks, so they must be a regional outfit.

If one wants to work regional, I’d say Southeastern would be a considerably better option.

I'd recommend, ODFL, SEFL, DAYTON (Hard to get em),Estes. I know here at Estes I'm at .5985 in 6 months. I'll blow past my buddy in October lol. Only downside here is the trucks could be better. It's not even close with ODFL. I still don't know why Estes bought so many CRAP internationals.Bob Dobalina Thanks this. -
