I was gonna say, be prepared for him to want to bail after a few hours. Kids' attention span/boredom level these days ain't what it used to be, unless you've already instilled patience in him.
Also, be aware of any restrictions your customers may have regarding (1) passengers and (2) minors. There are safety/liability issues to be concerned with.
Those being aside, however, hopefully he can have a fun day with dad.
my 7 year son old is begging me to take him to "take your child to work day"

Back in the 60s I went on many trips with my dad. Had the time of my life. Met people and done things I will always look back on with fondness. Them truck stop burgers back then sure tasted so much better. Those cokes were so cold too. Even at 6 years old I felt like a trucker. What would I give to relive those days!! Hand, take that kid on a ride. Trust me that kid will never forget it.

he had a blast. we picked up my 5 farms. yeah he did get a little antzy at times, mostly when i was loading, and when i had to wait for a farm to finish milking (not too long today, about 30 minute wait), but still kids are impatient. he loved cruising around in the pete 386 for the day. i explained what i was doing with the transmission and shifting, dont know if he understood but regardless i explained how i was giving the truck some throttle to downshift, how i was using minimal application of brakes when possible (relying on mostly the jake brake), and how i was splitting the gears when i was loaded.
loading is fairly uninteresting BUT it is a necessary part of hauling milk. i can understand his boredom while waiting around. kids have to learn patience.
i hope if he decides when he gets older to take up truck driving, that the option is still available as a career choice. im not sure. im not sure if allot of jobs will still be around. who knows, one can only hope.JReding Thanks this. -
Well I was just going bust your balls like normal. But I see in the pics you did something I think is A-1 ultra awesome. Good job.

the job has its quirks, every trucking job does but its working out. steady work, home everyday, local driving, steady money, and a not so bad boss. as much as i liked construction work i have realized im going to make far more money working steady driving milk truck. i dont sit on the couch waiting for the weather to break anymore.
i love driving and sharing that with your child is a special experience. i take pride in what i do, i have to. this is my little world of trucking.JReding Thanks this.
