Just don't do it. These engine are like cheap plastic bags that work great until they break and its not worth fixing them, It happened to me and many others i met after I did the rebuild. I wish I knew this before. Just putting this out there, hoping to help some poor people.

What are the problems? Parts unavailable? Too expensive?

I know these dudes that dropped the pick up tube, guess this is pretty common, and spun a main.

They got it reworked, back in truck, $18K.

Not long ago. I'm curious to see how long it lasts as well.

My engine had a rebuild and the main bearings seized after 50k because the crankshaft was bad, and this is a very common problem. Also the O rings from the oil pump tubes can drop lower pressure and if not fixed in time can damage the engine, but that one is and easy fix and many shops will recommend changing it.

So you are saying that because you or your shop did not do all needed repairs and upgrades the DD15 is a bad engine?

No, i am saying that because the crankshaft is not replaced in a regular rebuild and it might not show signs of damage but it will not last long after that. So your regular rebuild will cost as a new engine if you will have to change the crankshaft as well

Did you measure the crankshaft to see if it was within tolerance when you did the rebuild?
    Did you replace the bearings?
    Did you replace the oilpump?

The tech that rebuilt your engine took shortcuts , if he did not check the crank . Would took about 20 min extra .

Are they not standing behind their work? Sounds like a workmanship problem, not a product problem. If Detroits regularly blew up after 50k, they'd be out of business by now.
