If the rear case is leaking (relatively common on 60 series) that's an expensive repair.

The tech that did the inspection said 3 to 4k, is that even close?

Id guess its in the ballpark. But also keep in mind a couple things, they gotta drop the transmission. So perfect time for clutch and rear engine mounts. If you got a transmutation out always always always put a new clutch and rear engine mounts in. 99% of the labor is already done just dropping the transmission.

Thats insane. A clutch is 500 to 700 bucks and at most one additional hour of labor. Or did he mean an additional 10 hours labor after the 2300 for the clutch job?

That is almost 3 times what a clutch should cost.

This could be a sign for you to look further and you may find something much better.
Originally I didn’t plan to build a new rig. After months of looking at used rigs and running the numbers, I found in my case it paid to buid a new rig with a glider instead of buying used. Also I couldn’t find a glider in a carhauler. If you factor in your potential downtime, extra depreciation benefits and many other factors you could find that new may be more affordable than you thought. It also may not be the same for you as it was for me because a car carrier is a different animal than most rigs. I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted on a dealer lot.
