I run a 650+ mile turn. The trick is finding something engaging to listen to, or talk to people on the Bluetooth. I'm not much of a talker so I listen to a lot of podcasts..Ive been meaning to get an XM receiver, just havent' done so yet.

Don't know how long I'll last on this run. Money is great (obviously) but not having a life kinda sucks. Making sure you get enough sleep is like a second job.

Arrive at home terminal, break set, put to dock, post trip, turn in bills. Run home. Stop at good but unhealthy fast food place on the way, eat, quickly shower, go to bed. If I had a "good night" I might have a half hour to jump on my computer before bed.

Not at all complaining about the ability to shore up my finances with this kind of a Run, but it's the kind of run that can burn you out quickly if you let it.

Oh yeah definitely. Good thing with our terminal we never had to break or hook up sets except maybe on the weekend when there were only 2 yard dogs. Standard procedure was get back fuel (while they inspect trailers), drop set, turn in bills and head on home.

I do respect you doing that turn though. Get where you need to financially and then hopefully you can bid on a run that let's you have a life.

Watch how you hold that double edged sword.

It’s nice knowing you’ll run the same truck and trailer every day going to an area you like on a run that nobody can bump you off of. :)

Just out of curiosity, what’s a time in which the linehaul drivers start? Range? I understand that will vary greatly between regions and terminals. I’m on graveyard now so I start between 1-2 am. Live 35 minutes away and generally do a 400-450 mile day in 12-13 hours.

I’ve done days, nights, graveyard, swing, you name it. Nights were tough with a newborn baby and the swing shift was by far the easiest to adjust to starting at 1 pm. Easiest for me but hard on the family bc I was on the road every night.

Still job searching in a new area and so far linehaul seems to be the best way to support a family. As much as I’d rather do more than just drive, taking care of them is my top priority.

Just remember, taking care of your family doesn't just mean bringing home the bacon. Kids need their dad and a wife needs her man.

12 hours for a 450 mile day? I'm assuming you work the dock... we have 630 mile runs that are done in under 11 hours. I had a 440 mile run where I routinely did it in under 8 hours - no 30 min break needed.

Age is a huge factor, older guys require less sleep in general and adapt to staying awake and if we have lived this long know enough to not be taking 40 winks on a 20 wink curve
