Windows will begin offering Win 7 for download begining 01/09/2009.
It will be a public beta, so user beware.
If all goes well (hardware support), and time allows. I'll give a brief reveiw after I've installed. Then follow up about a week later, with additional info.
For those that want to read more, or take the DL. Follow the links.

Hey danc, can you tell me what you mean here? I have no idea what a "public beta" is. . .
-
It's not what they will be selling on the shelf. IE still has bugs.
It's a test platform, and not recommended for anyone who "needs" their PC on a stable and constant basis.
Windows has always been Beta too me. As it rarely functions as advertised. Even XP crashed during it's great public unveiling. LOL
If you recall the BSOD (blue screen of death). We no longer get it with XP and Vista...simply because it just freezes, and sends the error code to MicroSoft, in the background (or stores it in an event log). Rather than showing it to you.

OK, thank you.

If your part of technet, its available for download with a 30 day trial.
Tomorrow, it will be available to the public.

Don't know about being excited, more like optimistic !!!! -
LMAO.. I've been checking since midnight, off and on.
It's tempting to grab it off a torrent

From all the professional tech writers I'm hearing nothing but good things about this beta. They are saying that this beta is pretty much the finished product. Windows 7 is leaner, faster, and has lower system requirements. If anything Vista was a beta for windows 7. I plan on buying it when the full version comes out if everything I'm reading is correct. I'm not messing with any beta I have better things to do than install/reinstall operating systems. The beta's license is only good until August, then it has to be removed before you can install the final version. I'll just wait.

LMAO... 7 free months is 7 months. And it can't possibly be any worse than what I'm dealing with now.
32bit is 2.44 gig. And I still have to get the 64bit DL.
I have Vista 64 now, and want to uninstall/install it almost daily. The uptime has been great. But something crashes on it at least twice a day.
Windows has been beta, since 3.1. Nothing new there. Plus I get the oppurtunity to get a leg up on the issues I'll be looking at on the remaining family members PC's.
Vista has been good (simple) for remote access of issues. If 7 is even more stable. All the better
BTW... throughput has been good. I averaged about 6 meg DL speeds throughout. Thankfully AT&T isn't blocking MicroSoft yet

Amen to that.
